[Discussion] Iginla's status

Recommended Posts

Iginla. The question for this forum is do you think Iginla will be traded in the first place and if so who would the Canucks have to give up to get The long time flames capitan. Think about how awesome the sedins would be with Iginla on the right! The guys resume is great; two gold medals, Stanley cup finals apperance all star, and dispite being 33 and past his heyday his still playing some darn good hockey. He probably wants a cup contender an he did say he would wave his NTC and he probably dosnt want to go to far from Calgary so, what will make a deal and do you think it's a realistic possiblity?

You can't really say that Iginla won't be traded (although, I didn't see the interview).

A GM can never say that they are going to trade a specific player, simply because their value just diminishes. Would you expect him to say "Yes, we will be looking to trade Jarome in the right situation." What kind of message is that sending to the team? Publically, of course he is going to say he is not going to be traded, but you don't know what is happening behind closed doors.

I think its only a matter of time before they do trade him. The Flames look like they are going into full rebuild mode next season, unless they have some miraculous comeback, and Iginla is one of the few players that has good value. The older he gets the less he is worth and the clock is ticking. They may be truthful when they say they don't want to trade him but if they want any solid young talent to jump start their rebuild they will have to trade the few assets they have.

He's probably the central piece in their core at least at present; with Regehr gone (nice move, made it easier on the Twins to cycle and not worry about getting clocked against the boards) their core's essentially him (Iggy), Kipper, Giordano, J-Bo, Tanguay, B-Mo, Bourque, and an up-and-coming Backlund (plus maybe Glencross, Jackman and Babchuk as strong supporting pieces-- Karlsson too?); with Iggy gone though the rest of the team's drastically weakened so they won't give him up that easily, and it'll take some emerging pieces to pry him away (which was why LA looked to be in the forefront w/ their young pieces that could've come into play)

I'm not sure that the Canucks would be up there in terms of teams he'd want to go to for more than a rental, plus he would be expensive
