Also, I have to assume that the 'Caps will have Cavalini and Crepeau back for their next match? White and Hasal haven't been bad, but I can't help thinking that one or two of these draws might have been wins with the "A" team in the lineup....

And so the 2021 Gold Cup is in the books and a game that should never have gone into extra time went into extra time.  Both Mexico and the US had several good chances to score in regulation and the ball just refused to go in.  So into the extra 30 minutes it went.  The US scored a nice goal from a set piece late in the second half and won the game 1-0.  Congrats to them.

Listening to the announcers, it seems Mexico had most of their 'A' team in this tournament while the US had their 'B' team.  Which raises interesting possiblities for the upcoming World Cup qualifying round starting in September.  Could Mexico be vulnerable or will this loss galvanize them to be even better than expected?  Answers should be forthcoming in a  few weeks.

Ryan Gauld.  Yes, they did get him and he played the last fifteen minutes or so of tonight's game.

Based on that small sample I'm looking forward to when he plays a full game.

Fourth draw in a row.  Including three games with teams that are currently in a playoff position.

Even though they're still in last place in the West, the Whitecaps seem to be on the verge of becoming a decent team.

Maybe the new signings can get them to that next level.

I just watched several videos of Gauld.  He seems like he was like a big star as a youth.  Lots of elite skills on the ball, especially on attack.

Another game, another draw for the Whitecaps.  Fifth in a row. This time, 0-0 against San Jose.

A ho-hum game.  Really nothing to say about it.

Next, off to Austin on Wednesday and then a real home game at BC Place on Saturday against LAFC.

Vancouver Whitecaps say three academy players suffered racially motivated attack

Last updated on 16 August 202116 August 2021.From the section Football

A general view of the Whitecaps' stadium Vancouver Whitecaps' next game is against Austin FC on Thursday

Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps say three academy players were assaulted at an outdoor gathering on Saturday in what the side believes to be a racially motivated attack.

One player was taken to hospital but is expected to make a full recovery following surgery, while a suspect was arrested at the scene.

"Enough is enough," a Whitecaps statement said.

"Such disgusting behaviour has absolutely no place in our community."

The club added: "We are heartbroken and sickened by the allegations and strongly condemn all forms of discrimination, racism, and hate.

"We will do everything to support our players affected and urge the toughest punishment possible for those responsible."

Caps are in Austin TX and are down 1-0 37 minutes in

Caps bounce back in the second half for a 2-1 win!

And I'm rapidly becoming a Ryan Gauld fan.  He came on in the second half.  Didn't score but was involved in both Whitecap goals.

Isn't that how people get Baptized in Texas?

An entertaining 2-1 victory by the Vancouver Whitecaps over LAFC!

The Caps are unbeaten in nine games.

And Ryan Gauld's star keeps rising!

RG made his presence known within a couple of minutes of entering the game....

Really looking forward to when he is a full fitness, so we can see an entire 90 minutes out of him....

Actually, that should be: Caps are unbeaten in eight games.

I was getting ahead of myself and including next Saturday's win against RSL.
