Help is on its way?

https://theprovince.com/sports/soccer/mls/vancouver-whitecaps/whitecaps-sign-ball-winning-midfielder-andres-cubas-fill-final-dp-spot

Andres Cubas "...fills the final Designated Player spot on the team’s roster, coming to Vancouver for a four-year deal and a reported US$3 million transfer fee from the Ligue 2 club in France."

"But the Whitecaps new midfielder is still a long way from donning the Hoop at B.C. Place. He still has to obtain work permits in the U.S. and Canada, although he did have a travel visa to the States from his travels with the Paraguayan national team, but will still take time to get integrated into the lineup and system. He’s currently with his family in Argentina — he’s a dual citizen with Argentina — awaiting the paperwork to allow them to move to Vancouver."

What a game against San Jose. Absolutely wild. Feels like this club is finally turning the corner with offensive production, which has been their Achilles heel this season. They’re also doing it without Gauld and White who haven’t been anywhere close to last seasons level of play. Having a more spread out threat to score can only pay dividends as other teams can’t cover everyone.

It's a funny game. One the west's worst teams beat one the best last night and I think they deserved the win.

There were some breaks, (Dallas' 'keeper was hot garbage) but that's part of the game and the 'Caps took the initiative in the 2nd after conceding what would usually be a back breaker in stoppage time of the first half.

Lucas Cavallini was clinical in scoring from the penalty spot late in regulation and the defense was equal to the task, clearing the box several times, as FC Dallas mounted a late push for the equalizer.

....and they did all of this without Ryan Gauld.

Anyone know how to play goal?

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Whitecaps are struggling to find someone fit to tend goal for their Major League Soccer match on Sunday at Charlotte FC.

The Whitecaps announced Friday that goalkeepers Isaac Boehmer and Cody Cropper, as well as midfielder Pedro Vite, have been placed in the league's health and safety protocols and will not be available to play.

With regular starter Thomas Hasal out with a fractured middle finger, that leaves no one left to take over goaltending duties.

“We are currently exploring all our options at the 'keeper position for Sunday’s game,” Axel Schuster, the Whitecaps' chief executive officer and sporting director, said on the club's Twitter feed.

Vancouver (3-6-2) enters the match against Charlotte (4-7-1) in last place in the Western Conference standings with 11 points.

A pretty good effort by the boys, especially under the circumstances, but they came up short.

I thought Charlotte's second goal should never have happened because, in the set up to the goal, it sure looked to me like a Charlotte player wrestled a Whitecap down to the ground at midfield to set the play in motion, and the ref should have called a penalty.

As poorly as the Whitecaps have fared thus far in the season they're still only four points out of the last playoff spot and have a game in hand over most of the teams ahead of them.

If White and Gauld can ever get healthy and stay healthy and new signee Cubas turns out to be a solid pickup, the Caps could be in a pretty good position the rest of the way.

I’m wondering if guys playing (training too?) on AstroTurf creates more injuries and makes the recovery to be game ready again longer?  We need our team to be on grass.

Good question.

Ugh…caps. Making me want to just play Fifa 21 to see a better whitecaps team play

Kind of a lacklustre start to the game.  Came on a bit in the last part of the first half.  Godinho played well, I thought.

Hoping to see Cubas in his first appearance with the Caps in the second half.

https://www.espn.com/soccer/major-league-soccer/story/4685725/major-league-soccer-and-apple-tv-agree-10-year-deal

Major League Soccer and Apple TV announced a partnership on Tuesday that will see every game streamed on the app for the next decade.

The broadcasting rights deal is worth $2.5 billion, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

From 2023 until 2032, MLS fans can access games through the league's streaming service where they can watch all MLS, Leagues Cup and select MLS NEXT Pro matches.

Season ticket holders for all MLS teams will have free access to the service while some MLS and Leagues Cup matches will also be available at no additional cost to Apple TV+ subscribers.

All MLS and Leagues Cup matches will be called in English and Spanish, while games involving Canadian teams will also be available in French.

"For the first time in the history of sports, fans will be able to access everything from a major professional sports league in one place," said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Services in a statement. "It's a dream come true for MLS fans, soccer fans, and anyone who loves sports."

"No fragmentation, no frustration -- just the flexibility to sign up for one convenient service that gives you everything MLS, anywhere and anytime you want to watch."

Subscribers will have access to original programming, including in-depth, behind-the-scenes views of the players and clubs and a weekly live match "whip-around show" highlighting goals and saves and analysis.

"Apple is the perfect partner to further accelerate the growth of MLS and deepen the connection between our clubs and their fans," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. "Given Apple's ability to create a best-in-class user experience and to reach fans everywhere, it'll be incredibly easy to enjoy MLS matches anywhere, whether you're a super fan or casual viewer."
