Hansen is great but going forward I think we should spend money on a true line mate for the Sedins. We have something like 13 million in cap space. We should be getting somebody like Stamkos (dream) but guys like Okposo and Eriksson would be great fits. We have plenty of bottom 9 guys after that. Hansen has decent value right now. Grenier will be the new Hansen haha. I'd hate to lose Grenier to waivers next year only to find out he turns out better than Hansen.

Sedin Sedin Eriksson

Baertschi Horvat Rodin

Burrows Sutter Etem

Gaunce Dorsett Grenier

Vey

Virtanen and McCann will probably start in Utica due to the numbers game. Everybody else above needs to clear waivers.

Virtanen is not starting in UTICA... also Grenier and Hansen are complete opposite types of players.

Doubt it.  Canucks or back to Europe IMO.

If we're dreaming...

Balanced lines:

Sedin, Sedin, Okposo

Baer, Horvat, Hansen

Virtanen, Sutter, Rodin

Etem, Granlund, Dorsett

Offense/checking lines:

Sedin, Sedin, Okposo

Baer, Horvat, Virtanen

Dorsett, Sutter, Hansen

Etem, Granlund, Rodin

Grenier 13th in either scenario.

Switch Rodin and Virtanen as those are there "Natural positions" (left on the left side, right on the right side)

The good thing about Okposo is he can move up and down the line up.  He wouldn't be dependant on the sedins to be effective...kind of like...cough cough....vbrata.

Sedin, Sedin,Hansen

Virtanen, Sutter, Okposo

Baer, Horvat, Rodin

Etem, Granlund, Dorsett

That is one heavy second line. Surprisingly the more I think about our line up, Lucic would fit in nicely too,

Sedin, Sedin,Hansen

Lucic Sutter, Virtanen

Baer, Horvat, Rodin

Etem, Granlund, Dorsett

I'd be fine with either, Okposo would be a friendlier cap.  Either of them will work.  But another thing to think of is will adding either of them hurt us in an expansion draft? another player we'd likely want to protect.  Something to consider...

Thought Rodin was RW, no?

Either way that works too.

Rodin is left handed but seems to like playing on of off wing.  Virtanen is right handed but all in the W he did play lots on the left side.

Lots of good shooters like to play on their off wing to get a better angle when coming in the zone.  Ovi loves it so he can use the D legs as a screen for his shot.  I preferred playing on my off side but either way it didn't really matter.  It's not as difficult for wingers to play on their off sides as defence.

Nah no thanks to Eriksson.

Sedins-Hansen

Grenier-Sutter-Virtanen

Baertschi-Horvat-Etem

Gaunce-Granlund-Dorsett

Vey

McCann in the ahl

Burr gone.

I like that lineup. We have an abundance of forwards. There shall be many trades!!! (Hopefully)

Okposo is an American who has played his whole life in the USA. So unless we severely overpay I doubt he would want to come to Vancouver.  And before you bring up Miller nobody else offered him a 3 year $18m deal so that's why he came here.

I think Ladd and Lucic are much more attainable as they are local kids.

He was drafted by and hence played for the Islanders...

If he was drafted by a Canadian team he would have played for a Canadian team. You're making a pretty big stretch there IMO. If there's any reason he's not going to play here, it's because we're in the midst of a retool. Perhaps the 'Canadian city/fishbowl' issue as well. Depends on the type of person he is.

Personally, I'd rather give KO the money it would require to get Lucic or Ladd here. He'd get an opportunity to play with the Sedins for a couple years, we can afford to pay him a hefty salary and he can gamble on us hopefully being on the upswing with a good young core.

We may be fortunate with the cap being relatively flat and most contenders having little room in their top 6 as options for him as well.

Of course if he was drafted by a Canadian team he would have played there. But he wasn't. And he's a UFA so why would he pick on his own accord to come all the way to Vancouver when he could just stay on the East Coast?  Unless of course we overpaid. That's my point.

If other teams including the Islanders are offering similar money he will just stay on the East Coast. Why would he come all the way across the country to Canada to play on a non-playoff team unless he is severely overpaid?

Still don't know how that validates the 'Murrica angle you took there.... East coast maybe...but then he's not from the East coast either.

He's from Minnesota, perhaps he likes the idea of playing in a hockey market? Perhaps being from Minnesota, he likes the outdoors? Vancouver is one of the nicest cities in North America with extensive outdoors entertainment, particularly for the well heeled. The Canucks are an exceedingly well run team and an excellent one to play for by most accounts. Perhaps he likes the direction the team is headed? Perhaps he'd relish getting a chance to play with the Sedins? Perhaps he has a whale fetish? And yes, we can afford to pay him.

Perhaps he likes the high real estate prices in Yaletown as well!!  Lol!!

Anything is possible I guess. Yes we have the money to sign him but so do the Islanders. He may just want to stay where he is unless someone else overpays. He's from Minnesota but obviously has grown roots on the East Coast now since he's been there 8 years. We'll see. I put the odds of going after him at 20% best. With Boeser coming up we are set on right wing with Virtanen and Etem who prefers the right side. I'd rather go after the local guys as they seem to be more Benning type guys plus they both play LW of which we are in short supply, especially if Daniel retires in 2 years.

We we also have Rodin possibly for next year who also prefers the right side.

I want very little to do with the dollars or more importantly term, that will likely be required to sign either Lucic or Ladd personally.

It's all a gamble at this point. There is always risk with any UFA who gets big money and big term. I'd rather JB stay away from all of them altogether and make a hockey trade to get a top 6 forward. Go after an RFA or a team up against the Cap. That would be my preference honestly.

Not to be cruel, but I do wonder if broken stick breakaway will be defining moment of Alex Grenier's NHL career.

A little extreme, but it's funny how moments like that do make a big difference.

He scores a nice goal on that breakaway and it might buy him an extra few games with the big club. Alternatively he blows the breakaway and the coaches don't have much reason to keep him up at this point.

Does Grenier have a decent shot at making the club next year? 13th forward?  He didn't look out of place to me his last call-up.

I think 13th forward is between him and Zalewski. The loser will be waived (and hopefully make it) to Utica.

Right now, I'd say Zalewski's in the lead though.
