Guest Dasein
H-east has some of the top end talent like the WCHA in BU, BC, and UNH to an extent but also has the lower tier programs like the ECAC in the rest of the division. His numbers are good but I'm far from sold on Cannata because the NCAA in itself is a defensive league and coach-oriented. He could be a product of the system, or could be an all star, its hard to tell for me at least Sweet. Thanks man. Do H-East, WCHA, ECAC and the other leagues you just mentioned all play for one championship? Or do they differ in levels--for example, WCHA plays against only BU, BC and UNH for a championship, ECAC does its own thing, H-East plays in the 2nd tier championship... Or do they all get an opportunity to ultimately get in the NCAA Frozen Four?

Guest Dasein
they all compete to try to go to the frozen 4 Thanks. I'll be pulling for Merrimack, Harvard, Colgate and Wisconsin then LaBate probably has the best chance of making it to the Frozen Four. Schneider came from the exact same league and put up similar numbers. But like you said, it's hard to tell. He has received some honors for his play, and was nominated for the Hobey Baker award. So he's gotta be doing something right. I didn't know that. Joe's numbers in H-East is better than Cory's...This sounds promising--I'm cautiously optimistic about Joe and I will patiently await his pro debut next season with the Wolves. canucklax
as far as Cory vs Cannata goes, my feeling is that marrimack probably plays a more defensive game than did BC when cory played because they have very little forward support vs BC which always has talent. Think New Jersey or Nashville type systems

ballsdeepfreeze
Labate with an assist last night... Brings him to 12 Pts (3G, 9A) in 17 Games...not bad for a freshman at a good program such as Wisconsin.

canucklehead44
Wow. Patrick Who? Patrick White? He sucks. His last year of college he finished 13th on the team in scoring and now plays in a 3rd division German League. I never thought a first round pick could make Nathan Smith and Libor Polasek look like decent selections. Taylor Matson, a 6th round pick of the same year scored twice as many goals at White last year. Matson has had horrible injury problems and isn't even considered a very good pick for a 6th rounder. Just goes to show how awful the White pick was.

I know we got Ehrhoff for him but still, you can't expect to cover for that by trading 1st round busts for 40 point D-men every time.
Joel Heyman
BTN is playing Wisconsin vs RIT. LaBate is playing. He's doing well, on the 2nd PP line. Not really that noticeable though. Joel Heyman
The announcers just went on a 30 second speech about LaBate's offensive upside, skating abilities and his 6'4" 200 lb frame.

Joel Heyman
LaBate's skating and passing skills are quite impressive. He just carried the puck out of his zone then made a no look pass to his teammate who then got tripped and drew a penalty. Schultz scored in the PP and now has a hattrick as a defenseman. 100 career points now too. Is Schultz drafted?

Joel Heyman
chosen 43rd overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft's second round Ahh, alright. Thanks Avelanch. LaBate's game is good. A few main points I noticed tonight were -Excellent speed for a guy who's 6'4 200lbs -Good vision and passing, always willing to distribute the puck to someone in better position to score -Quick release on his wrist shot, didn't see his slap shot in this game -Could be more physical, has this large frame but doesn't use it in an aggressive manner. -Can play LW and C effectively. That's what I read off of watching his play tonight. I am happy with this pick and think that after hes out of college and plays a year or two in the AHL he will be a solid 3rd or 4th line center or winger. Niloc009
Thanks for the analysis H36. Always great to have someone actually watching a game or two. I like that he's a threat to score, so he's not just a grinder.

I actually started watching the game out of boredom then realized LaBate was on Wisconsin Another thing that I forgot to put in was that I probably heard the announcers say "LaBate and the Badgers" about 8 times, if not more. So he obviously must have some leadership role (I can't remember if he wore an A or not).
