Sharpshooter
Sharpy of my knowledge there is no reason to go part way to the next benchmark. You won't have any more benefits then a team who spent to the benchmark and not a penny over. I hope this clears this up.
canuck2xtreme
Thanks winterhawks. I guess my next questtion while internally debating what to set my FO to, is more directed at Curt then....how long will our budgets be locked in for? The end of the regular season? The end of the playoffs? The begining of next regular season? How long will we be married to our budgets and to the benefits and consequences attached? September 1st of each year. canuck2xtreme
This is not accurate. Ask the team that missed out on Alex Tanguay this summer. Yoshi and I went over some things via pm, I'm at work and on my iPhone so maybe if he sees this before I get home, he can post up my reply to his question for everyone to see. I should say that my discussion with yoshi didn't touch on that specific topic, but it still may be beneficial for some of our members. I will comment on it when I get home. Sharpshooter
I'd like to get clarification on another matter, since i'm at it today. Regarding placing a player on LTIR and calling someone up to replace them.....are we, as in real life, able to call up or sign or carry as many players onto the roster to replace the player that thas been considered to be allowed to be on LTIR according to our individual budgets? Example: If Player A(a forward whose Daily Cap hit is equavlent to $3million per year ) gets injured and i've submitted a LTIR application and it's approved by theminister, can I bring up or sign or carry from the Offseason or a combo of the 3 of Player B and C so long as I don't exceed the roster size limitations or the Cap Relief afforded by the injured player? So, let's say Player B and C's total Cap cost is $2.5 million per year, or it's daily cap equivalent, is that kosher? Also, can Player B and C be a forward and a defenceman if I so choose that's what i'd like to bring up and carry on the roster while the other player in injured and on LTIR? Thanks. Sharpshooter
I would like to point out I wasn't the person missing out on Tanguay, but Curt just used that case as an example. I was asking how a low legal/high relations, or a balanced budget are in relations to signing free agents and re-signing players. Followed up by 3 things I took from this reply 1) Legal affects UFA signings and Player Relations makes your players likelier to stay, unless you budget $12 million in the relations department. BUT, it's not like if you budget $11M to the department, you gain no benefits, as you will likely be a more attractive option to free agents over teams that spend less in that department. 2) The only area where I can see no reason to go over the numbers is the Medical section, as a team spending $9 million still would not be able to place players in our IR when they are "expected to miss..." X number of games. 3) Stop using the "if they want to win they'll take less" argument to try and sign free agents. Hope this helps.

canuck2xtreme
Loving the fact that I have to consider getting first rounder Nick Jensen under contract sooner rather than later. I probably just jinxed it.

Primal Optimist
lol at comparison .... I like Jensen, but I think he may be too young to start in the NHL. Shrug, would be a story if he did start on the Canucks this year, wouldn't it? Oh and Quebec, I was soooo going to put in a waiver claim on Scott..then i realized I would ahve to then waive one of my D guys in return to make room.. yikes. luckyyyyyyy

Squeak
PRESS RELEASE: GM Squeak came out to say this today regarding placing John Scott on waivers, " We felt that our prospects and younger players had earned their roster spots, which forced us to make this move. We had kicked tires to see if there was a market for Scott, but no real offers came out. We are not surprised that someone placed a claim on him, since he is the first of many players to be hitting the waiver wire in the coming weeks. But we watch the waiver wire closely, and since we will be 5th on the waiver wire depth due to our standing last season, we anticipate that we will be able to replace Scott shortly"
