Bombastik der Teutone
wow...wellman got traded to the rangers in real. i guess he wont get much icetime in the nhl now cuz the rangers have a pretty strong depth on their forward section. wellman allready had 2 goals and 5 assists in 14 games for the wild. if he plays with the big guys ...he´s a good player but he has problems if he plays on the bottom lines. i hope he will get some shots there ..... arby18_
MONTREAL - It turns out that the rumors were true. Montreal Canadiens GM _arby_18, evidently not pleased with his team's current state of affairs as well as the direction it was headed, has sent his two best players packing. Captain Zdeno Chara and assistant captain Pavel Datsyuk, along with Jonathon Blum and Casey Cizikas, have been sent to playoff contenders in Washington (Datsyuk) and Vancouver (the others), while the new-look Habs build towards the future with a bounty of younger talent. Newcomers to the Habs are Rick Nash, Brent Burns, Patrik Berglund, Adam McQuaid, prospect Brian Dumoulin, Washington's 1st Round Pick this summer and a future consideration believed to be of some pretty decent value. "This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do as a general manager," _arby_18 announced during the team's press conference earlier this afternoon. "I have traded two incredible players, and even better people, that wanted to be here but wanted even more to be in the playoffs." "Well, they are now likely headed to the playoffs, but sadly they won't be doing so here in Montreal. I would like to thank both Zdeno and Pavel for everything they have done for Canadiens organization, wish them well on their new teams, and also apologize for not doing the necessary things to help them get into the playoffs here in Montreal." The decision to move Chara and Datsyuk, the team's only two All-Stars this season, obviously wasn't one that _arby_18 wanted to make. The team came into this season with high hopes and a spring in their step, and early in the season things looked great. However, injuries and the lack of production from the younger players that were heavily relied upon have the squad buried in 10th in the Eastern Conference and over 300 points out of the playoffs. Chara re-signed earlier this summer as he believed that the team was well on its way, and Datsyuk was incredibly happy to have Alex Tanguay brought to play alongside him, but things went from bad to worse and the team has been in a nosedive since. "Chara has been here since the beginning, and Datsyuk has been here for a long time too, and what have we done for them?" _arby_18 asked rhetorically. "We've missed the playoffs in each of the past two seasons, and if we had stayed the course this season then I'm sure we'd have made it three." "I told these guys that I was going to give them a chance to win the Stanley Cup this year, but I didn't think it would be with different clubs. As much as I'd have loved to have kept them, they deserve to play for the Cup and unfortunately that wasn't going to happen if we just stood around hoping." "I also traded away two solid young players in Jonathon Blum and Casey Cizikas, two guys that I had hoped would be a part of our future here in Montreal, but Vancouver obviously wanted them too and you need to give to get. Blum was signed as a free-agent earlier this summer, and while he hadn't played up to our expectations we still had lots of hope for him, but the Canucks targeted him as part of the package and that was that." So the decision was made to move two quality players for a quantity of solid players to help improve the depth on the Habs. In essence, each player was turned into two players each plus some future oriented pieces like picks and prospects. In the process, the Habs got a lot younger as well, as Datsyuk (33) and Chara (34) have been replaced with Nash (27), Burns (26), McQuaid (25) and Berglund (23). All four figure to be prominent fixtures in the Habs lineup. "Our current setup of having two all-stars wasn't quite cutting it for us, so moving them gives both a chance at the playoffs," _arby_18 explained. "However, I also think that we really solidified our roster by adding four solid players that can help us not only now but hopefully for a long time into the future." "Rick Nash is signed to a long-term contract and waived his NTC to come here, and we envision him to be a fixture on the wing of our top line for many years to come. Patrik Berglund is a youngster who is also signed to a long-term contract, but we really like what we've seen from him and think that he can develop into a top-line center. Brent Burns is a defender that anyone in the league would love to get their hands on, and though he is a UFA after this season I truly hope that we can get him signed long-term, while Adam McQuaid brings grit and toughness to our blue-line as well." "We were also able to get a nice defensive prospect in Dumoulin, but it was also extremely important to us to get a 1st round pick back," _arby_18 continued. "The prospect of attempting to rebuild without a draft pick this summer was a tough thing to consider, so I knew I had to at least get a 1st in return." "At the end of the day I figured we had two options," _arby_18 suggested. "Sit tight and hope that things turn around was one of them, or make a move and spread out our talent. I went with the latter, and was able to get Z and Pavs onto some contending teams while also adding what I consider to be some darn good hockey players to our club. I'm hopeful that it is a win-win for our squad as well as for the boys that are leaving, but I guess we'll have to see how everything pans out." Updated lineups to come. y0shi
I don't think I've ever been this active in terms of trade negotiations. I have completed one deal yesterday, and am in relatively active negotiations with 2 or 3 other GMs. It feels like almost every player's name has came up in trade talk at some point. Bombastik der Teutone
I believe so. I know for me Gaustad is listed as doubtful for last tuesdays game against the Devils (where he had 3 points) and Kulikov isn't even on there and he was put on LTIR before the break.
