winterhawks
I am happy with the way the scoring structure is right now. The changes we made last year worked and made everything more balanced. We have talked about hits and block shots before and it seems like we always end up with the same problem. Pickup-hockey doesnt have them in their scoring structure. I guess we could move sites? Primal Optimist
Personally, I like the scoring structure the way it is, however I can see where 10 minute misconducts are over rewarded, I don't think it is that big of an issue, but one that could change the landscape of playoffs. What if PM's were included in the regular season as is: which rewards a few things: fights, and those goal saving penalties we are all aware of, I am thinking of hooking the breakaway player here. Misconducts, usually for extremely rough play or fighting is also a part of the game and I think regular season its fine. So maybe cut penalty minutes in half just for the playoffs, much like the NHL generally benches its goons in the playoffs. One last thought is that just spit-balling on this one as I am fine with whatever the league decides. FYI: There were 238 Misconduct penalties over the entire league in the 2011-12 regular season. An average of just 8 per team, or one every ten games roughly. So I wonder if it is really worth any concern that a GM may benefit by 10 points every ten games from a ten minute penalty, or if we just perceive it to be something to be concerned about? In general, the players who would rack up the most or are most prone to racking up misconducts also miss a lot of games in supplementary discipline and generally are not racking up other more 'honest' points like goals, assists, plus minus et cetera. Oh and in the playoffs there were 32 Misconducts, or 320 points worth in total over 86 total games or 172 "team games" so in theory a playoff team in the averages 1.86 fantasy points a game worth of Misconduct points...now consider that half the players were not in the CDCGML playoffs...and that number drops to a rough guess of .9 fantasy points a game of average Misconduct fantasy points per CDCGML playoff team. Lastly keep in mind that this years numbers are way out of proportion to any other recent year, due to Sherrif Shanahans crackdowns. I read somewhere Misconducts were up for the season by 320% over the previous five year average. So I don't think it is an issue, but I think if we wanted to make a call on it, cancelling PM's for the playoffs, or cutting their value in half is better than cancelling them outright from the whole season. As for PickUpHockey: "create up to three custom scoring catagories" could this allow us to add 'blocked shots' without it being a total headache of data entry hell? canuck2xtreme
As for PickUpHockey: "create up to three custom scoring catagories" could this allow us to add 'blocked shots' without it being a total headache of data entry hell? The 3 custom scoring categories are more towards players rather than hits or blocked shots. You can' t add something like hits or blocked shots this way, instead you can designate a different scoring structure for players labelled a certain way. For example, I could create an Enforcer or Goon category, and those players would receive points on a different scale than usual forwards. The problem with this is it relies on us creating a threshold for those kinds of players. For example, a guy like Darcy Hordichuk or Adam Burish would obviously be in this group, but what about 'power forwards' like Ryan Getzlaf, Milan Lucic or perhaps even Steve Downie? Top 6 players who can score but also get a lot of penalty minutes?
canuck2xtreme
I should also say, any changes that are made, if any, will be minor adjustments. A big overhaul isn't needed as I feel the system we have works fairly well.
Primal Optimist
Cool, Didn't mean to get ranty, just figured I would opine on the subject, as I said, I am cool with whatever you guys decide, this game is awesome as is, and any tweaks by the exec would not take away from the great game, imo.
