Multicultural festival to kick off in Chinatown today at noon

Recommended Posts

Perhaps something to check out if one is at loose ends this weekend - it runs Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6pm.

The largest summer multicultural festival that takes place in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown launches today at noon.

This year’s theme, “Food for Folks,” is a celebration of multicultural cuisine and food culture, and will feature a variety of food-centric events including cooking demonstrations, a food-tasting walk, and an open-air market.

Entertainment will include a variety of multicultural performances and demonstrations, such as the Lion Dance, Kung Fu, Bollywood dancing, Samba, Hip Hop, Chinese folk art demonstrations, Irish Tap Dancing and African drums.

The annual festival, hosted by the Chinatown Business Improvement Association and sponsored by TD Canada Trust, runs today and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at the 500-block of Columbia Street and the 100-block of Keefer Street.

The event's opening ceremony runs today from noon to 1 p.m. at the main stage at 555 Columbia Street.
