The West, IMO, has a lot of teams that can make noise and ones that can surprise people by squeaking into the playoffs.You say Western Conference, I think LA, Chicago, Vancouver, Anaheim, San Jose, Vancouver, Detroit. That's seven teams just right there who will most likely make noise. Then St. Louis, Dallas, Nashville and a few others who can surprise people this season. I may be biased towards myself, but I just have a feeling I may catch people off guard.

You're going to need a strong team, and a lot of points to secure a playoff spot.

Game day notes: As the Av's start their season against Detroit, Adam Foote will be honored by having his #52 taken to the rafters and retiring his jersey after his long and storied career with the franchise.

Captains have been announced, with Milan Hejduk being given the C and defensemen Niklas Kronwall and Jan Hejda having an A sewed on each of their jerseys.
