2012 WJHC in Calgary/Edmonton and Team Canadan Discussion

I'll say Gormely will get the 'C'. However both Howden and Schwartz would make fine choices

Questions surrounding goaltending, scoring punch and the physicality of our defence will swirl throughout the tournament and Canada will once again be in a dog fight to get to that gold medal game. For whatever reason, I feel like they'll find a way to get there.

I belive they made a huge mistake in goal tending... Tyler Bunz.... I shouldn't have to say more. This guy is unreal, his numbers arent great, but if you have ever watched him play he never, AND I MEAN NEVER, gives up, and considering all the goalies at the camp were good enough to play for team canada, that should have given him the edge. This is coming with no bias either, other than visentin was part of a huge collapse last year....

Ahh the WJHC my fav. part of the holidays. TC always a Gold medal hopeful. i think Russia will be in the finals with Nail, but Sweden can give them a run for their money, who knows WJHC is unpredictable this year, though im always rooting for the little guys aswell ive liked Switzerland and this year ill prob cheer for those Danes, i believe Jensen will be the Nino of recent WJHC

Lot of pressure on Visentin to play well after last year's collapse.

Who was the last superstar goalie to play for Canada at the WJHC? Price? Pogge?

I can't quite remember but all I know is that it's been our weak link the past few years. Even the year of our last win, Tokarski struggled mightily before finally finding his game in the gold medal game.

Can't wait though. It doesn't officially feel like the holidays till the tourney gets going!

While almost all the focus in this tournament will be on the favorites, I remain amazed how well European teams can compete with only a fraction of the registered players of their US and Canadian counterparts. To put things into perspective, host Alberta has 70,000 registered players - the countries participating:Canada 572,411 / USA 500,579 / Czech 100,668 / Finland 65,251 / Russia 63,580 /Sweden 62,003 / Switzerland 26,166 / Slovakia 8,280 / Latvia 4,424 / Denmark 4,405. While Latvia and Denmark could be battling it out in a relegation round in less than 2 weeks for 9th and 10th place, there may well be the next Jannik Hansen or Karlis Skrastins (RIP) on the rosters.
