After several rounds of negotiations, Erik is pleased to come to terms on a 5-year, 21.75M contract extension with the Boston Bruins, which pays him 4.35M per year, making him one of the highest paid, young defenceman in the league. Erik is very excited to learn from Norris Trophy winner in Chara and hopes to have a successful stint in Beantown! F Ryan Smyth has come to terms with the Edmonton Oilers for a 1-year, 4.0M contract extension. Edmonton had approached the veteran forward with a multi-year offer, but the 35-year old Smyth opted for a shorter contract as he would not like to burden his hometown Oilers with un-removable cap salary if he decides to retire this season.
