Newly acquired Oilers Steven Stamkos and Martin St.Louis celebrate a goal back in Tampa.

The clock struck 2:30 in Edmonton, and a trade was announced. It was a major trade sending Patrick Kane, Alex Burmistrov, Matt Cullen, Sean Couturier, David Musil and 2 draft picks to Tampa Bay in return for Steven Stamkos, Martin St. Louis, Zenon Konopka, Brian Rolston and Scott Glennie. When asked about the move Edmonton GM Nail Yakupov had this to say about the trade "Our team is a competitive young team on paper and we should be winning a lot more then we have. Hopefully this shakeup can give the Oilers a boost and provide us some wins to make the playoffs." Steven and Martin are likely to stay on a line together in Edmonton and their LW might even be Taylor Hall. When heard that two all stars were heading to Edmonton this is what Taylor had to say "I've heard a lot of good things about Steve and Marty and they are 2 proven stars in the NHL. I hope that our team can gel together with these two guys and provide some much needed W's.". Acquiring Steve and Martin can give Edmonton one of the best top 6's in the league. Right now they have a lot of options when it comes to line combinations. According to Oilers head coach Wayne Gretzky, Steve and Martin will start with Taylor Hall on the first line and the second line will consist of Jordan Eberle, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Michal Frolik. When GM Nail Yakupov was asked about his teams cap situation going into this offseason where the Oilers have to resign many key players, he said this "Right now, the ultimate goal is to win the Stanley Cup. We'll worry about the salary cap and resigning our players when it comes to that time. Right now, we are gunning for the Cup." Edmonton could be looking to move Michal Frolik (83 B-) for a LW around the same overall and potential.

The team has decided not to choose a team captain at this time, as a show of respect to Marty St. Louis. He was a fantastic captain, and the team will miss his voice in the room. We also realize that fans may be angered that we dealt the two biggest names of the last few years for this team, but we hope that over time, the fans realize that this was for the best. Steven was never able to replicate his 2010-11 success of 51 goals, and 95 points, after having just a barely above point per game year last year, and a well below PPG pace this year. However, we have acquired some fantastic players in return here.

Patrick Kane, the 1st overall pick of 2007, is a top class sniper, who after some early career controversy, has really matured into a professional in Edmonton, and we are sure he will continue that trend here. He will play on the top line, with Antoine Vermette and Alex Tanguay.

Aleksandr Burmistrov is another young player with a high draft pedigree, going 8th in 2010. The 6'1" centre has a high potential, and we feel that he will be able to replace Stamkos' production as soon as next year. He's a pass-first player who should be able to form a formidable pairing with Patrick Kane very soon.

Sean Couturier went 8th in 2011. He's big, plays with an edge, and is very solid defensively. Standing at a colossal 6'4", he has top end size, and top end skill, both offensively and defensively. A true gift in the NHL, that doesn't come by as available very often.

Matt Cullen is a middle 6 player with a focus on defence. He'll further solidify a 4th line that has not been great since the departure of Shawn Thornton this offseason.

David Musil is a young defence prospect, who has upside as a bottom pairing guy, with potential to jump into the top 4 if he can step into the offence that many scouts say he has.
