DonLever
When I went to school (which was a long time ago), encyclopedias were the source of info for doing reports and other projects. My, how thing have changed. Encycopaedias are now dust collectors. I remember when the PNE had a booth selling encyclopdia britannicas. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17362698

Opmac
Inevitable as between the time the entry is written, edited, published, and put into libraries, the information is already outdated.

Joel Heyman
Yeah.. I think my Great-Grandmother has one on her coffee table... In Grade 11, haven't used an encyclopaedia as a resource since elementary school, not surprised by this news.

trek
CD-ROM's killed the Encyclopedia, the Internet killed CD-ROM's (when's the last time you fired up Encarta to search for info)... Now I want to find my old Encarta 97 cd...

Lewah
As a 23 year old, I can count the amount of time I used an encyclopedia in Secondary School on one hand. Plus, I don't think we should be making books anymore, and minimize anything that uses paper until society starts mass producing hemp.

Buggernut
They will only become a collector's item if there is a demand for them and there is no demand for it. In fact, there is too much quantity out there. There must be millions of them out in homes and libraries, given it has been published for more than 100 years.BTW, are betamaxes and 8-track players collectible? Stefan
Overrated by who? Anyone who questions it's legitimacy is insane. All the details are cited, and I'm yet to see anything false. It's updated so insanely fast. I tried editing a page years ago when I was bored. It was changed in a matter of minutes.
