Gillis Top Priority This Off-Season?

Get a top 4 D, preferably a top pairing D-man with sound defense. He needs to get rid of the extra d-men or defensemen that we don't use like Alberts and Ballard. Use their cap money to get a D-man which can play 25-30 minutes. This season, our D has been inconsistent and horrible. In fact, great goaltending by Schneider and Luongo mid-season masked this problem. Gillis either needs to trade for one or get one during Free Agency. If am Gillis, am keeping an eye on Suter in the FA market. Right now we only have one decent pairing (decent defensively) in Bieksa and Hamhuis. Edler is good offensively but we have no one to complement him and Salo will be retiring after this season. Tanev is good for the bottom pairing on this team but still doubt he can log 25-30 minutes if we had to rely on him. Gragnani is an offensive D-man and Rome is a 6th defenseman. Our lineup with Suter on it, would make our defense 10 fold better. Pair Suter with Edler and we would have a better pairing than Bieksa and Hamhuis. I really hope Gillis addresses this and doesn't rely on Gragnani next season to make the top 4 on this team.

Hopefully we can sign Suter, but he's most likely to stay in Nashville. Hopefully we can get some valuable 1st round (preferably top 10) draft picks if we trade Schneider, and draft a stud defenceman

I am less concerned with the dmen than I am with team defense.

The way the nucks play the game relies a lot on d to drive the offense and leaves the d out to dry at times.

Unlike some of the d first systems other teams play.

Not sure if we should trade Schneider if Luongo plays inconsistent in the playoffs. I mean, can we have the same result year after year for the next 10 years with the same goalie in net? IF Luongo craps the bed or has some kind of mental breakdown in the playoffs, am sure Gillis will sign Schneider instead of trading him.

Signing Justin Schultz and another rock solid defense man. Also, try to get Salo in again, for cheap. Re-sign Pahlsson. Trade Schneider for highest value, and add a young backup goaltender with upside.

then he's done, and hope for the best. Nothing else he can do. A puck mover should help the offense move quicker, and a solid rock defense man should keep player's honest. Hope Kassian(more consistent) and Tanev(stronger) get better. Schultz, to be a reliable puck mover or if they don't get Schultz. Hope for mag or perhaps even Connauton. Doubt either of those two make any impact though but the nhl experience might help.

Then, the key here is for Gillis to say that the team is "healthier" than last year. Last year, being this year and we will believe him.
