Dun Caesar
First off, I am a huge fan of Schneider,so i am not hating on him at all. That being said, we have been playing somepretty bad hockey lately. Lou is looking like a below average goalie, and our best players aren't playing like our best players. We are due for a win. We're at home playing a pretty bad team. If we win tonight, it's gonna spark another goalie controversy, causing big distractions to the team, and giving the media a field day with annoying questions about who the starting goalie should be. If we win and Schneider plays great, I am almost afraid to listen to the team 1040 on Monday, and all the people calling in, saying how terrible Lou is. The Brahma Bull
It's not going to start any goalie controversy. Schneider is rock solid and will continue to play well. Lu will get his start in the playoffs to lead us, but if he is shaky in a game, Schneider will definitely be given his turn to lead this team. Luu ran out of all of his chances last playoffs. That leash is a lot shorter now and for good reason. Also, you do realize that if Lu started tonight and played like crap against the worst team in the league that that would be even more of a controversy for this team. Easton76
So if we play Luongo tonight and he lets in 4 goals, do we play him next game too? I mean we would be stupid not to play him... to avoid a goalie controversy..

DutchieBang
like coach V says... you have to put the team on the ice that will give you the best chance to win... how many people feel that Luongo is giving us the best chance these days? This season Cory is as focused as ever...
zduck14
Starting Schnieder tonight is a no brainer. I'm one of the Luongo fans around but it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to give Luo the start tonight. This game is against the last place team in the league, that has huge interest in trading for Schnieder this offseason. Why wouldn't the team showcase him a little more? If Schnieds carries the Canucks tonight it will only build more value and make that 1st overall pick more possible.
Primal Optimist
From the 15th of Jan to the 18th of Feb Lu did not lose a single game in regulation, and he played ten, he was 7-0-3 in that stretch. From the 21st of Feb to now he is 2-4-1 in net, but it is not really about Luongo. The team has pretty much known they were a home ice first round playoff team since the 18th of Feb. Where is the challenge, where is the reason to get up for the game, and lastly, why bust your butt all out to get the President's trophy, when you can coast to a very similar playoff experience without busting anything, or rather, anyone. That is why Cory is getting more starts this past month, and why he should start tonight. Meaningless games need not be played by players you don't want to get hurt. I would even give the twins a night off each on back to back nights.
GodzillaDeuce
It only produces a goalie controversy when people start whining about which goalie is starting sort of like your thread
canucks82
IMO, The Schneider start vs. CLB was decided well before the Canucks started to lose a few games. I think AV and Management are just sticking to their game plan with the goalies. Two games in 8 days! They have to play both of the Net-minders. Even if Lou got a shutout vs. PHX, Schneider would still have the start tonight. IMO. Canucks fans have to trust in their Coach and Management to make the right decisions. Not S**t on them. IslandVanFan
Who cares, if Lou cant handle the pressure that Cory puts on him then Lou is the one that has to go. Gotta stop protecting the weak links, they are trying to win the game, not play psycologist.
Primal Optimist
Is it premature of me to state that if A) Lu starts every playoff game B ) Cory starts every playoff game C) They tandem the games D) Some mix of all of the above Then it still does not make for a goalie controversy. Fact 1; you hire players to play for your team, Fact 2; players are human and will perform well some days and not well other days Fact 3; the objective is to win Fact 4; both goalies are really good and will help us win. Opinion 5; Lu is my go to guy, since IMO, Cory is reacting very well to his game starts timing, which means he is in a good spot starting less than half the games, why change that? Give Cory every 3rd game from here to June.
DarthNinja
Based on everything you've explained, I feel it is the right game to start Schneider. Lu has been given every opportunity to go on a solid run here. He deserves to be in there at this time and maybe this will provide that extra motivation to get the players and Lu back on track. 2009cupchamps
So last time Luongo was playing like this Schnieder got 7 straight starts. The team started winning and Luo game back playing some of his best hockey ever. I say give Schnieds the next few starts, let the team get their act and confidence back. This gives Luo a mental break and allows him to re focus for the stretch drive and playoffs
DIBdaQUIB
Whether or not there is/will be a goalie controversy, is in the hands of Lu. If he plays the way he is expected to play, there is no contoroversy. If he continues to perform the way he has for the past 8 games or so, there will be. The whole universe knows how good Cory Schneider has played and how much potential he has. Only on CDC are there people who diss him in order to protect their love for Lu. Lu has been given every chane to work his way out of his funk and so far, hasn't been able to. To continue to play him at the expense of the team's success and to avoid a possible controversy defies all reason (except on CDC). I hope Lu finds his game and finally gets it done this year but if he falters, I also hope management don't hesitate to go with Schneider and if he plays well, ride him as long as he gets the job done. This is the Vancouver Canucks, not the Luongo Canucks.
Primal Optimist
27-14-7 = 61points in 48 games or 61/96ths or a 63.54% capture of available points for Roberto Luongo 15-6-1 = 31 points in 22 games or 31/44ths or a 70.45% capture of available points for Cory Schneider There are 12 games and 24 points remaining: statistically Cory would get us 16.9 points and Lu would get us 15.2 points. Now Lets all agree Lu is not on the top of his game right now, and lets all agree Cory is, such is the path of the goalie, look at Bryzgalov's year. Would you demand that the backup, who is on top of his game, get more starts than the starter, who needs to find his game again when in the end all your talking about is a meaningless couple points that will neither bump us into first, nor drop us into third? I say again: the team is not motivated this past month, it has nothing to do with LU and while Cory is trying to stand on his head, it is because he wants and needs every highlight clip he can get to bump up his chances at high offers this coming RFA season. I say again, NO controversy here, goalie tandem is working as intended.
