Canucks Slump(Fans)

Special Ed

Recommended Posts

Let's be honest. Everytime the Canucks hit a slump, impatient hockey fans throw fits in Vancouver and rage over the players. Put yourself in the players shoes. You start hearing tons of criticism of your friends on the team, from a bunch of people that don't have a clue. After awhile it gets to you and then who are you playing for?

I think we as fans have to also take a good long hard look at ourselves, during slumps too. Vancouver has very efficient band wagoners and I bet the players can sometimes feel it. If you ever talked to an NHL player on a personal level, you may know perhaps they resent some things fans do or say(not publicly). Don't be shocked that maybe Cody is happy to be gone and our guys are getting tired of "some fans" over the years. Specially luongo. And i wouldn't blame any of them if they did.

I say the Canuck fans are in a slump too. It's time for us to wake up(myself included) and show the team deserved respect for their recent accomplishments. If you're going to the next game and you want to turn things around, then maybe, just maybe. Scream your head off and show the Canucks that even if they aren't playing good, that Vancouver will still support them for a change. Even if they lose. We really need to give this team something to play for and I think Bieksa was hinting at fans, when asking them to be louder.

So who are the Canucks playing for? A bunch of impatient jerks? After all the sacrifices the team made last year in the playoffs we should be cheering them every loss, into the locker room. Rest of the season.

Why would we cheer them for a loss? That doesn't make any sense to me.

They're getting paid millions of dollars to play hockey and if they can't take heat for playing bad, then they're in the wrong sport. Don't try to baby them.

Expectations are high this year and if the Canucks can't deliver, management/ ownership will do something about it. This doesn't mean rebuilt or breaking the team apart, but looking at what went wrong and how to fix it.

We the fans pay some of the highest ticket prices around to watch them play. We the fans have been waiting for 40+ years for a cup. We the fans are the reason why this team is making millions of dollars. I agree that some fans are irrational and plain stupid but most of us who are not bandwagoners have the right to express anger and frustration when the team is on a slump like this. This is not a even a slump, its been a few months since we've been playing like this. This team deserves the heat for how badly they've been playing.

People need to relax.

A.V. is toying with the lineup right now to get ready for the playoffs.

Our D-men need to get used to playing with different partners, and in different roles, for when injuries occur. And same goes for the forward lines.

Sure the team isn't playing great, but A.V. is in full on post season prep mode. These games are basically meaningless right now, as we have a top 2 spot locked up.

It's all about the post season, and the team WILL step up their intensity when they need to.

On CDC you find two types of people.

1. The negative people who call for trades and the firing of coaching everytime there's a loss.

2. The suck ups who seem to think there's something good about losing to bottom feeders or teams like Minnesota that using half their roster.

Would you also be okay if this kind of play carried over into the post season and resulted in a first round exit? The Canucks are playing like trash and deserve whatever they get. People pay money to watch them play, not throw games away.

Agree 100%. It's about motivation... if my job pays me, I will show up on time and do what is asked of me. If I enjoy what I'm doing and feel appreciated, I will give the extra 110%.

Pro athletes are competitive by nature but if I were a Canuck I'd be playing for (in no particular order)

1) myself

2) my teammates

3) the kids

4) anyone who supports me

and to hell with anyone else. (especially the blowhard fans who rant and want to scapegoat my teammates on a regular basis)

I guess my biggest problem with some of the over-the-top rants about the Canucks is that if you claim to want the team to win, you should do your part in making it happen. To that end, in my experience working with people, you get more out of them with motivation than criticism.

........The Canucks are a team of professional hockey players exhibiting their chosen profession as handsomely paid players under contract with the Vancouver Canucks organization.Under these contracts I'm pretty sure irrelevent of circumstance they are supposed to show up and display their wares to the best of their ability. No one can lay claim to this for the 2011/12 season in all honesty.

If you think you can bash a player as a fan base and that the player should still give 110% just because of money... I think you're going to have to start to understand moral. In a war moral can change the tide of an entire battle. Money only gets and keeps the players here. Moral puts them over the top. Any good leader knows this. Just like any job if you pay your worker(even high wages) and treat them like crap they may not perform fully. I was simply wanting to point out that maybe the Canucks slump partially lies at fault within us. The fans.

I wonder where in the process of getting that money they automatically grow thick skins. Its probably not a coincidence that teams in Carolina, Anaheim, Tampa Bay etc have all won cups recently and not one team in Canada has won in 20 years. You can ramble on this self righteous 'I pay so I can act however I want' line if you want to, but maybe Vancouver fans as a whole are getting what they deserve.

If i was a hockey player i wouldn't give a rats ass about what the fans are saying, unless you win all 82 games you're going to hear bullsh*t from fans once in a while. this why they're professional athletes, pretty sure they can handle it
