Officiating For The Scp (How Fair And Balanced Will It Be?)

Simply put the league is a business not a charity, and the most money is to be made by bringing more bodies into the seats and more viewers at home. Close games, close playoff races and close series fill seats. You think that all the good teams in the league just suddenly started sucking ass when the playoffs came into view? Teams that are just below the cutoff are getting every chance to get in for the sake of ticket sales while the teams with solid attendance are getting the shaft. This will go on throughout the playoffs because again, they're worth more money.

But despite my realism which may come off as cynicism, I am very pleased about one thing: our PP sucks. Everyone complains about it but remember, we've scored far more 5 on 5 goals than we had last year. So sure we might not win 5-0 as often, but come playoff time, you'll all be extremely happy that the boys have been practicing 5 on 5 plays at the expense of the PP.

Maybe the Nucks will stop turning the other cheek this year since they aren't going to get rewarded with an excess of PPs anyway. The last few games the Nucks have been pretty fierce. Fight fire with fire. we do have more firepower than last year so lets use it.

the officials are under plenty of pressure.

there's several factors that go into inadequate officiating when it happens.

you have to think that last year canucks might have felt at times that the ice was tilted and they were skating a bit uphill.

that's the consensus from watching the bruins initiate and continue scrums when they took cheap shots and did not get called for it. it was almost certainly a premeditated tactic to get the skill game of the canucks down a notch or two and use intimidation as a turning factor in that series.

as coach AV said after. "We played the right way. They won."

this comment should never have to be made. cheaters should never be able to see their tactics validated by success.

officials earn between 100 and 250 k. <link> while good it still works out to a small fraction of what the players make. and while players stay at 5 star hotels the refs likely lodge in the 3 stars like holiday express or quality inn.

the point of this is that refs are not impartial. sometimes the impartiality is subtle sometimes not. you want to support the refs and the job they do, but you do not want to support bias and/ or support of cheating.

this years playoffs will probably see its share of controversy. as per the user agreement of this forum, it's probably not safe to name actual names of cheaters. but the intention is to spot the maladaptive trend and stop it before it becomes a destructive <factor>in the enjoyment of the sport.

The refs are what Gary Bettman and the guys at NHL head offices wants them to be. The NHL is turning into a bush league , You dont whats a penalty these days from game to game and if Bettman did not want it that way the referees would be fired

and Gary Bettman is what the 30 NHL owners want him to be or he would be fired. They want him to grow the league and grow it he has. So blame the owners, who ultimately want to make money. And the easiest way to do that is to give the fans what they want. If the owners don't, fans don't watch, and hockey turns into lacrosse. So blame the fans...

PS and the fans are they way they are because of their upbringing , so it might actually be your mommy's fault all along.
