L'Orange
Sadly under the current CBA that's the maximum that Shanahan can fine him.
L'Orange
Problem with your conclusion is only this: Bitz was completing a hockey play, and his intent is clearly arguable and thus not easily defined. Whereas Weber threw an arm which was potentially an attempted elbow, and then followed up with an overt face slam. Legally speaking, and obvious shown, Weber intended nothing more than to commit egregious bodily harm, while Bitz was merely playing overenthusiastic hockey. The voracity of a sanctioned hockey play cannot compare to an obvious intent to injure. It's like comparing an apple to an elephant.
Drop Em
People like Bitz need to be taken out of the game...besides he severely compromised the Canucks chances...he's a liability to the team. If the NHL does not take the appropriate measures to the protect the players, perhaps the Canucks organization will have to step up, considering the NHL is being negligent by not doing so. PS. $2500 is chump change for a hockey player but yet a $50,000 fine (rough estimate which I understand they raised just before the playoffs probably knowing there is going to be nonesense by the NHL - what pro organization is so worried about this that they need to raise the fine) for speaking against the NHL...do we not live in a country that promotes freedom of expression but have laws to protect the safety of others...what is more valuable to the NHL or of greater concern...the protection of the safety of the players or shutting down peoples ability to speak the truth about the activities of the NHL...where is the NHL's priorities? Is such an organization fit to oversee a pro organization.
Drop Em
As I said, moral of the story is to wear a visor: Zetts wears a visor, gets his face thrown into the glass, isn't injured. Weber can be let off, on to game 2. Kyle Clifford doesn't wear a visor, eats glass, out for who knows how long, gotta give Bitz a game or two. CHIPS
2 games for Bitz is well deserved. The only beef would be Weber no suspension. But that's not Canucks talk so let's move on.
