Impact Of Daniel Sedin

After seeing last nights game, I realized how much of an impact Daniel has on this team. Sure, the team is 8-2 (including Game 1) with Daniel out of the lineup, and Henrik has shown flashes of magic I feel that the 30 goals we are missing with Daniel are only a minor thing that Daniel brings to this team.

The first thing is that with Daniel, we actually have a legitimate top line that is a threat to score every time they are on the ice. I thought Raymond played decent last night, but he impressed me much more with his back checking rather than being a scoring threat. Daniel makes the lineup much more balanced, as we have two scoring lines, one checking line that can score and a crash and bang line.

Secondly, the powerplay. I know, it hasnt been working for 3 months, even when Daniel was healthy; however, without Daniel the powerplay just seems lost. Henrik can't play his cycle game properly, and Kesler is forced to try and create offense rather than park in front of the net and create havoc for the goalie.

Puck posession is the next thing. The Canucks thrive off of this, and when Daniel is on the ice with Henrik they own the game. Last night, we spent way too much time in our own zone. We gave the Kings WAY too many chances just because we were stuck in our zone and couldn't clear the puck. With Daniel in the lineup, it is the Canucks keeping the puck in the oppositions end, creating scoring chances for us, causing the other team to play excessive defence. Also, after the penalty kill we do not have the luxury of throwing whoever out there with the Sedins to spend time in the other teams zone, and get our momentum back.

All these little things can make a big difference in a 7 game series. Hopefully Danny is good to go soon, but if not Im still confident this team has what it takes to go far.

When Hank had the puck there were times where he didn't even know who to pass to, since his brother wasn't around (e.g. that time early on when everyone else was changing and he made a rink wide pass... to nobody; also that time where he just kept on cycling and banking the puck to himself while Scuderi was draped all over him); however, one positive note was seeing him being in such control of the puck last night when he basically dangled through four Kings and kept the puck, reminiscent of

considering how much Burr has played with Hank, he or someone else could probably spring Hank and allow him to assert himself offensively again (if Hank's willing to start shooting the puck)

Mistake AV made was putting Raymond on the top line instead of Lappy. With Lappy, the first line was putting up regular points for a number of games. Why he chose to mess with that is sa mystery but one reason I feel we lost.

Raymond kills offence no matter what line he is on. Speed is good but Raymond is muscle car on a tight, winding track...ineffective and prone to crashing.

Even without Daniel what Team need to do is be the puck possession team. Last night I saw Canucks had hard time going through neutral zone. When they get the puck, players dump the puck and get the change. Plus penalties. Yes we need to take Less penalties and play the game whistle to whistle. LASTLY, plz stop diving. seriously it makes us look bad. As for powerplay we will have hard time scoring on Quick if there is no traffic front of the net.

Point being. Daniel won't be back tomorrow. Basically guaranteed. They will have to win without him. Obviously he's a great player. Clearly he has a concussion. Clearly he won't be tomorrow.

I'd predict Daniel comes back for Game 5 because of the amount of time between 4 and 5.

he's our leading scorer, of course we miss him especially on the offensive side of the puck. really hope we can get him back for game 3 ... or if he doesn't make the trip to LA then back in game 5 after a lengthy break.

having said that, the absence of daniel is no excuse for performances like last night. this team is very deep (deeper than last year IMO) and has not been built around 1/2/3 player(s) ... if we play to our full potential (skating hard, high intensity, no more flopping around) and are firing on all cylinders we should be able to beat any team in this league, regardless of whether or not #22s on the ice....

having Danny back would sure make it easier though, the guys an elite winger in this league, and even though Hank's looked great at times without his bro, Daniel on the ice really does make Hank even more dangerous offensively.

the biggest thing with Daniel is our PP, we had what 4 or 5 chances last night and didn't get an PP goals? with Daniel in our PP is between 20-25% so you think we'd get at least 1 goal...bam game goes to OT, maybe we win maybe we lose, but he makes a difference.

obviously the team is not as strong without him

but the loss of gm 1 were mostly related to bad discipline, defense and turnovers

sure, dan could have scored on the PP and put the gm away. But with what they have in the line up now, they should be able to win

I dont see Daniel playing in this series at all so the boys better clean up the sloppy play (2 delay of game penalties, etc) Sammy isnt going to get 7 goals and dominate the series this time either! They are going to have to play clean hockey to beat LA.

Another huge aspect is that the 4th line needs Lappy to be productive. last night they would dump the puck in, crash the end boards and then retreat, Kassian was the only one who looked to cycle and maintain puck possession in the offensive zone. with Lappy there to initiate and join in the cycle I think the 4th line will be more productive agitating, wearing down the defence and they may even turn a few pucks over for a garbage goal or two

daniels return is good for both the 1st and fourth lines
