shimy1
Hey Guys, so I was just thinking about the last 2 years and the 5 series the canucks have been a part of and I noticed that we play alot of veniza goalies. Its interesting to note that its in these series the canucks have had an extremely hard time scoring. Now I know it makes sense veniza goalies = low scoring. But it makes you wonder where this team would be if they were playing against against top 3 goalies so much. recap Boston = Thomas, 2011 Winner Nashville = Renne 2011 runner up LA = Quick(in my opinion he should win this year, but he likely wont) 2012 nominated in all these series the canucks had a terrible time scoring. SJ = Niemi, they lit him him last year despite him winning the cup the previous year Chicago = did not have problems beating him when needed Anyway just some interesting hindsight. kinda wish we for once played someone like anderson, or bryzgalov. Tm085
Bryzgalov letting in 4 goals a game doesn't matter when his team can go down and score 5 or 6, that's how the dynasty Oilers won alot of the time. Fuhr's GAA for the playoffs was close to and sometimes OVER 3 some years when they won the cups, but the team had so much offense that it didn't matter. OrdinaryBoy
Roberto Luongo should have won the Vezina Trophy and the Hart in 2007. He carried our team throughout the season and almost singlehandedly won us the series against Dallas.

Mad Cow Disease
Hence why the eventual champion Anaheim Ducks only scored 14 goals in 5 games against the Canucks that year. Now that's almost 3 goals per game, but 5 of the goals all came in Game 1 and two of the games went to double OT. That's just the life of any team going up against Vezina calibre goaltending. D.Doughty
You want to play Anderson, one of the top goalies in the league? He and Karlsson brought the Sens from basement dwellers to post-season spoilers
OrdinaryBoy
Wasn't that the season he won 48 games, tying Bernie Parent's record (eventually broken by Brodeur that season). I believe the Canucks back-up (Sabourin, I think) won only one game (against anaheim)
stexx
sad part is out of that list of goalies the only one the canucks have scored on with ease in the playoffs is niemi in san jose. we seem to be able to make even mediocre goalies look like gods. DownUndaCanuck
Basically the most important key to winning the Cup is top-end goaltending. The best goalie in the league (and best defence, they go hand-in-hand) is usually the winner because...surprise surprise...defence wins championships, not offence. MG has said he wants his team to be exciting and offensive-minded, but this is stupid considering the fact that a solid defence has been the reason we've been derailed the last 2 seasons. Just look at the teams remaining - solid goaltending but more importantly, strong defensive styles, are the ones that have prevailed (Nashville, St. Louis, Phoenix, LA, NYR, Washington (great goalie), NJD) while the offensive-minded teams are all out (Ottawa, Detroit, San Jose, Vancouver, Pittsburgh). The only exception is Boston, but they were just beaten by a hot goalie, and Philadelphia can play well defensively but didn't have to against Pittsburgh who had terrible defence and goaltending. Ṣpiderman
It's more so our inability to make goaltenders look bad. Ever wonder why backups look amazing against us? Our inability to generate quality scoring chances without forcing the puck in the slot is a very concerning issue as slot passes are almost never there against well defensive teams. Teams like San Jose and Calgary who are bad defensively allow the Sedins to cycle and force their pass to the slot for easy goals. Thomas was exposed by Tampa, yet we weren't able to because we have players who are afraid to go to the net.
