Get Younger Defence Core

Recommended Posts

How is this realistic at all. Face it, Schenider IS staying and Luongo IS NOT staying. Also, as MG previously said, why blow up the team and trade Edler after 3-4 bad games in the playoffs? We need minor adjustments, not a major shakeup that could jeopradize our success.

Edler can become a Weber/Suter type player he is only 26 and hitting his prime. You are basically re-building the defence after a quick playoff exit. Don't forget we won the President's trophy keep Edler he is a great player for us who will only get better

If Nashville exits this round, Shea Weber will want a trade. He wants the Cup and stands a better shot with Vancouver.

If we offer Edler, Booth, and Raymond, we can get Weber.

Shea Weber is twice the defenseman Alex Edler is. Sorry.

They both throw bone crushing hits. Shea is a much bigger player though.

They both possess an excellent shot. Weber can break nets and score more goals.

Most players are wary of Weber. He is a force.

The Kings weren't deterred by Edler, not one bit.

Alex Edler has been a good d-man for the Canucks. He will never be a Norris calibre defenseman though.

We have league leading goaltending. Luongo and Schneider are tops. I would prefer to keep both.

We have some league leading forwards. The Sedins are still a force.

It's time our defense became elite as well.

If Nashville falls from contention in the playoffs, a Weber to Vancouver trade is very possible.

And if possible, vital to do.

TBH the solution is this simple.

Call up Burke and say "If you get me the 3rd or 2nd overall pick, Lu is yours". Burke does the trade (Using his 5th overall + some prospect)

Lu for 3rd overall, then draft Ryan Murray. Using our 26th overall pick draft a guy like Adam Pelech (Dan Hamhuis type potential),

So we end up getting younger, we end up with a future Norris D-man who will likely have an immediate impact on the team (Not too much on his rookie year but would be able to take Ballard or Tanev's place AT WORST) and we will have another up coming well rounded D-man in our system.

Mainly because this team will have a hard time going anywhere with the crap defensive core we have on this team. We have 3-5 forwards and definitely both goalies that are better than any defender on our team. Until we catch up in that department I believe we will find we are not as good as we think we are.
