Herberts Vasiljevs
I am a big fan of selecting whoever the BPA (best player available) is in the NHL entry draft. I remember in 2009 when we were looking to draft a d-man in the first round but went with Jordan Schroeder 22nd overall who was supposed to be drafted near the top-10. Of course, he hasn't emerged, but he's developing into a two-way center who always think pass first, and has a lethal shot. We know for sure that the Canucks are going to draft 26th overall in the NHL entry draft in Pittsburgh. Who do we go after. Unlike any other year I've seen, there are so many thriving defensemen in the draft. The Canucks are a win now team, so I don't think whoever we draft would play an impact in next seasons' playoff push, unless we get a Ryan O'Reilly of '09 or an Andrew Shaw of '11 (two high draftees who played the following season after the draft). This is a year where I'm very uncertain of what GM Mike Gillis' plan is in the first round of this draft. The loss of Hodgson made us lose some young depth at center, though we gained a potential top-6 power forward in Zack Kassian. Schroeder is almost ready, Jensen has emerged and at 19 he even almost looks ready (good luck buddy with AV behind the bench), and Tanev has been a pleasant surprise on D, while K-Conn is still developing the defensive side to his game while is offensive play is arguably the best on the Canucks D depth chart. We have some solid prospects in every category, even our goaltending depth with Joe Cannata and David Honzik (sorta) is strong. Who's on the Vancouver Canucks radar for the 26th pick? Maybe a power forward like Colton Sissons ( http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=48393 ) or Tom Wilson ( http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=98663 )? Possibly a d-man who puts up points and plays on the edge like Dalton Thrower ( http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=45529 ) or Damon Severson ( http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=55867 )? A poised d-man who makes smart plays and solid defensively like Ludvig Bystrom ( http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=27493 ) or Hampus Lindholm ( http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=34882 )? Or simply, like I suggested, the BPA? Hopefully, a stud like Teuvo Teravainen falls into the 26th spot, but I'm only dreaming ( http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=44567 ). Who would you want the Canucks to pick in the first round, and why? Cheers. GO CANUCKS GO!!!
Pears
TOM WILSON!! 88 overall in third season in Be a GM. Pick him up MG!!!
Ralph.
Watched Severson in Kelowna lots, loved him. Obviously an offensive D, and his defensive play could be worked on, but he's not awful in his own zone. There were plenty worse.
Chris_P
I like Wilson or Thrower personally. I would think one or both will be available. Who knows, I'm usually wrong with who I think we'll draft.
Canucksbiggestfan
I would like Ludvig Bystrom. I just have this feeling about him, I like the way he plays. Hopefully the Canucks pick him! Then in the 2nd Round pick up Henrik Samuelsson, Ulf's son!

Tragoedia
I personally hope we draft Thrower. I think we need (or at least are going to need in the coming years) a gritty, on the edge, in your face, tough as nails, two way d man who can hit, score, fight, go to the rough areas and etc. He may not be one of the best players in the draft, but I think he has the potential to be one of the better blue chip defensemen in the not so distant future. Legend Killer
I really agree with TSN, if Subban is still available.. take him. Makes us much more versatile moving forward.

Langdon Algur
never seen either one play but from what I've read I like the sounds of Tomas Hertl, centre, and Brady Skjei, defence. some great scouting profiles in this globe and mail article. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/globe-on-hockey/profiling-the-nhls-2012-draft-class-the-mid-first-rounders/article4307706/?service=mobile
