(Proposal) *updated* Liberace's Roster For 2012-2013

Recommended Posts

Okay, let's get right down to it. We need to add grit, a little more skill and guys who can do well in the playoffs.

- NOTE: This only works if cap goes up to $68.4+

In this order; Re-Signings; Trades; Signings; Roster; Remaining Prospects & AHL'ers; Special Teams; End Notes.

RE-SIGNINGS:

Samuel Pahlsson: 2 years @ $4.25 million. $2.125 cap hit.

Sami Salo: 1 year @ $2 million.

Cory Schneider: 4 years @ $12 million. $3.000 cap hit. (Won't ask for too much. Think Varlamov $$$)

Eddie Lack: 1 year @ $900,000

Dale Weise: 1 year @ $700,000

TRADES: (At the Draft)

To NYI: Keith Ballard

To VAN: NYI 2012 2nd

Reasons: Salary dump on Vancouver's part, but helps NY Islanders reach the cap floor. Ballard would help the power play and depth on the Islanders roster. The 2nd coming the other way is for a later trade.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To WIN: Manny Malhotra

To VAN: WIN 2012 3rd

Reasons: Salary dump on Vancouver's part. Winnipeg recieves a 3rd line C who is strong on the draws and a good penalty killer. Would alleviate some of the defensive duties of Antropov. Vancouver gets a 3rd for a later trade.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To NJD: Roberto Luongo, Jordan Schroeder, Yann Sauvé, VAN 2012 2nd, NYI 2012 2nd & WIN 2012 3rd

To VAN: Zach Parise (UFA) & Adam Larsson

Reasons: This is only IF Martin Brodeur retires (which it looks like its heading that way). Luongo becomes the Devils' new franchise goaltender, and he moves closer to home, in between Florida where is wife lives, and Montréal where is immediate family live. New Jersey also gets an almost NHL-ready center/winger in Schroeder who has great vision and a good wrist shot. Sauvé was a prospect I did not want to see go, but its part of the trade to help replenish defensive depth in New Jersey. And two 2nds & a 3rd round pick go to New Jersey. Vancouver gets a week to negotiate with Zach Parise, and with Mike Gillis' magic, I'm sure he could work something reasonable out. And Vancouver also recieves a young defenseman who looks like he'll be a stud later on.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To FLA: Andrew Alberts & VAN 2013 4th

To VAN: Jerred Smithson

Reasons: Small salary dump for Vancouver and a draft pick for next year's draft to Florida, who gets a depth defender. Vancouver gets a depth center who can play RW as well. He is bigger at 6'3 210.

To CGY: Anton Rodin, Mason Raymond (RFA) & VAN 2012 1st + VAN 2013 3rd

To VAN: Alex Tanguay & CGY 2012 2nd

Reasons: The Flames, by reading articles and listening to the radio are still on the fence of a rebuild/reload. This happens if they do in fact (which it seems like it may happen) rebuild. Rodin is a talented winger who is almost NHL ready, plus a late 1st and two 3rds to help them for the future. Tanguay is brought into Vancouver to be Kesler & Booth's playmaker. Tanguay is 32 and signed until he is 36, who still averages ~50 assists per 82 games in his career.

SIGNINGS:

Ryan Suter: 8 years @ $50 million. $6.250 cap hit. (Signs with his buddy Parise)

Zach Parise: 8 years @ $50 million. $6.250 cap hit. (Signs with his buddy Suter)

Travis Moen: 2 years @ $3.35 million. $1.675 cap hit. (Re-unites with Pahlsson)

Clayton Stoner: 1 year @ $825,000. (Comes home for a season)

ROSTER:

Sedin Sedin Parise - All out scoring, plus a little help with Parise's 2-way game

Tanguay Kesler Booth - Playmaker for a shoot-first player and a power forward

Higgins Pahlsson Burrows - All 3 players are geat defensively and the wingers have scoring touch

Moen Lapierre Hansen - A line 3b with some added grit in Moen

Smithson, Weise - Both depth guys that can play good bottom-6 roles

Suter Bieksa - Suter is a very good defender both ends of the ice, Bieksa is interchangeable with Larsson

Hamhuis Larsson - Hamhuis can mentor young Larsson who will be a stud in 3-4 years

Edler Salo - An NHL 2nd pairing as your 3rd pair means incredible depth

Stoner, Tanev - Stoner is better than Rome, and we all what Tanev can do

REMAINING PROSPECTS & AHL'ers: (Major Ones)

Billy Sweatt, Niklas Jensen, Zack Kassian, Marc-André Gragnani, Andrew Gordon, Kevin Connauton, Adam Polasek, Frank Corrado, Darren Archibald, Steven Anthony, Eddie Lack & Joe Cannata.

END NOTES:

- The trades may be hard to make, but I feel they are do-able. May have to add to some

- Smithson, Stoner can be inserted in the lineup anytime, and are local and would probably want to play here

- The team becomes more rounded and depth becomes even stronger for a playoff run

- The defense has a #1 Suter), another potential #1 (Larsson), three #2's and a solid #3 (Salo)

- The forward group has 2 good scoring lines & 2 solid checking lines with grit and can score as well

- The goalie situation is still up in the air, but if Luongo leaves, its either Lack or a solid back-up

- Tanguay still has game at his age, he's probably the best passing LW and a great penalty killer

- The defense finally has 3 left handed and 3 right handed shots, so everyone is on their good side

- The whole group gets bigger, more skilled, more durable & more players good for the playoffs

- Injuries are key (when are they not), but with our developing AHL'ers, they can step up as well

I will admit this is only a small pipe dream, because I know there is a chance this can happen. Stranger things have happened before, but like I said this can happen. Everything that I stated, like Brodeur retiring, Calgary re-building and Suter and Parise being friends and wanting to play together have to fall into place though, so no guarantees. Even I can accept it if this doesn't work out.

Critique, but DON'T be a TOILET about it.

I'll state it now, I have never played any NHL game. I've always been curious, but I don't own a gaming system. I also have to say, we have a few good prospects that we may have to dip into for the Tanguay & Larsson deals. Though I would like to not.

No way NJ does that deal. Larsson is untouchable right now unless we offer Schneider and pieces, he's way too valuable to their team and their future. Even if it's only for Parise's rights, the trade is overvaluing our players.
