Officers responded to a medical aid call at the home of the 43-year-old former Charger in the 600 block of South Strand Boulevard at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday. According to officials at the North Community Fire Department no one was transported from the home. Our media partners at the North County Times report Seau died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The medical examiner's office told NBCLA they have staff en route to Oceanside however, the office told NBCSanDiego they could not confirm or deny the report of a death inside the home. They said they have no information regarding the police activity outside Seau's home. The official Chargers Twitter account initially sent this post, "We don’t have any information right now on the Junior Seau situation. We pray he's ok." Then, once the news was confirmed, they announced a previously scheduled news conference with head coach Norv Turner has been canceled. Former Charger and NBC 7 Sports Director Jim Laslavic said he cannot believe Seau was gone. “He has done so much good for so many people,” said Laslavic. “Junior touched a lot of lives.” Laz was so emotional after hearing the news he wasn't sure he could talk. "He had a passion for his game, had a passion for his family and had a passion for his community," Laz said. Fans have been busy posting comments on NBCSanDiego's Facebook page. Carla Taylor Mays posted, "He is a very nice guy & very friendly....I've met him on several occasion...so sad." "Wow I'm shocked if this is true," posted Victor Gonzales. Seau was a star linebacker at the University of Southern California before he became a Charger. He was with the Chargers until 2003, and then played for the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots. He retired from football in 2009, according to the NFL. Seau continued to be a major part of the Charger culture after his retirement from football. He opened a restaurant in Mission Valley called “Seau’s The Restaurant” in 1996 and it has been a destination on game day for the last 16 years. In October 2010, Seau sustained injuries when his SUV crashed at the bottom of a Carlsbad cliff. Oceanside police arrested Seau on a felony domestic violence charge. Kumquats
RIP He was one of my favorite players. I remember watching ESPN's Sports Jobs with him recently as an equipment manager for the Washington Capitals, he looked like he had fun. Sad, you never know what is going on with anyone. Buggernut
Sad. Isn't it reason to stop glorifying and encouraging young impressionable boys to take up this self-destructive activity in schools? What's the mindset like there anyways? Is it like you have to play football to be a man and get the girls or something?

JustJokinen!
I have been reading that football suicides have been occurring with blows to the chest, etc so that the damage caused by concussions can remain to be seen afterwards as a warning. Grapefruits
It's being reported now that he left a note saying he wants his brain examined because he believes that blows to the head left him mentally impaired, the same thing Dave Duerson did in 2011. The NFL is going to have some serious legal issues for a long time. There is already a lawsuit involving over 1000 former players. What a joke that the league wanted to increase the season length to 18 games.
Buggernut
You can say want you want about the NFL being a joke. But at least they are taking head shots and concussions very seriously now, unlike the NHL.

Amish Rake Fighter
The average life expectancy of the modern NFL football player is now around 54, although some actuaries say it's closer to 51, what a meat grinder.
