nwo
1. They would generate huge ad revenue. 2. It would greatly increase the exposure of the game and what better way to get more people interested in the greatest sport on the planet.
Niloc009
TV Networks like NBC, CBC, TSN, and SportsNet would be very unhappy.
6string
totally agree, i love the portability options to watch the games via internet, their time has to come soon, they stand to gain a lot by taking a leap forward with technology!

Niloc009
sportsnet offers the canuck for $2.99 per game with 10 game pkgs and season pkg....the other networks can do the same and retain their audiences.
WiDeN
I think all networks should have a free stream on their websites. It wouldn't be too hard to coordinate localized advertisements during commercial breaks. This is the internet age. It isn't far off.

Bill Sikes
Do you honestly think the NHL would do anything for free? I am surprised there is no regestration fee for team message boards or Royalties charged for saying the letters NHL in that sequence. The NHL is all about GREED, an endless quest for a monopoly on hockey itself regardless of the means or even the legality of those means, as I type this they are probably trying to find a way to take a cut when you register your kid for timbits hockey, why do you think they have two crooked lawyers (theres a reduntant statement) running the show? Bill Sikes
It's a business. They don't put the product on the ice for free so why in the world should they show it to you for free? And really, I don't think the NHL makes anywhere near the money a lot of other professional sports leagues do. And the games are way more widely available for us than say soccer in the UK. Thrill-House
Like Bd71 said, it's a business. If they think streaming games online for free would be profitable they would have done it already. A lot of money and effort goes into actually getting a game on the air and it would make no sense if they didn't profit from it. You forgot to add reason #3 to your list. 3. I want everything in life free and at my convenience.
Russ
Meh I like NHL Gamecenter on my PS3... especially since I miss 99% of games and can watch them when I get off work the next morning.

6string
If the NHL would stream them for free (as this user suggests), why would anyone pay $2.99 per game? Brand loyalty? Lol.
