[Proposal]Chris Kelly + Steve Ott

Recommended Posts

So essentially TB is the only destination for Luongo, picks and prospects aren't anything we would want to touch. We don't want to entertain Purcell, and most certainly not Malone. What we can do is trade those picks and prospects for something else.

TB: Luongo, Raymond's rights, 1st round pick, Nicklas Jensen

Van: Brett Connolly, 10th overall, 20th overall

Dal: Brett Connolly, Schroeder, 20th overall

Van: Steve Ott

Sign Chris Kelly to a 3 year 3.8 million dollar deal

Sign Pahllson for a 2 year 1.3 million dollar deal

With the 10th overall pick draft a BIG, RH, Canadian, Defensemen, to replace Sami/Bieksa if the need be.

Our defense looks like this.

Hamhuis Tanev

Ballard Bieksa

Edler Salo

Ballard emerges as a decent 2nd pairing with Bieksa, Hamhuis develops Tanev to an intense player, Edler get's low ice time with Sami. Whatever happens next season determines all 3 of our lines (Weber).

Forwards:

Sedin/Sedin/Burrows

Booth/Kesler/Ott

Higgins/Kelly/Kassian

Lapierre/Pahllson/Hansen

2nd line has the veteran 280 hits a season winger it needed, Kassian develops with 2 skill players that play physically, 4th line essentially has spare parts for all 3 lines, lines become very interchangeable with one another, essentially a 20 goal scorer on every line.

The success of this team would be on Kassian's development, how Ott and Kesler click, and how Ballard and Bieksa play with one another.

Kelly will likely re-sign with Boston. That D isn't good enough IMO. Who knows what the Ballard - Bieksa pairing will look like, those are two mistake-prone defenseman. Why would you want to decrease Edler's ice time? 1 bad playoff series shouldn't warrant that, and Salo is on the decline, I think we should move on without him.

Not a lot of people are fans of Raymond, and he hasn't given fans a lot of reason as of late.

However its pretty likely he ends up being qualified. MG isn't going to mismanage assets, and MG is going to determine if he still is able to contribute at a reasonable rate when he is healed and has an offseason of training. It looks pretty bad on MG if Raymond goes unqualified and puts up 50 points elsewhere. The possibility has to be ruled out.

Luongo is a franchise caliber goalie... obviously it appears that Cory has usurped Luongos position, but there are going to be a few teams very interested in his services going into next season and he won't be moved for cheap.

Those picks are unproven at this point...and so is every other draft pick until they are proven.

What has Steve Ott proven? He proven to be a high end 3rd liner.

You won't find people arguing that Steve Ott isn't valuable...but last deadline Dallas stars were more than open to the idea of Raymond + a pick for Steve Ott and Bob Mackenzie said he was being shopped to Van big time. Lebrun even said Raymond was offered for Ott (which means the value is probably not significantly off between the 2)
