Franz Liszt
Hi. I've been playing with a new idea, now that Kesler had surgery on his hip. So the Canucks need a new 2nd line center for the time being that he is gone. Squeak
I have to keep asking this... Why do people keep re-signing Pahlsson?
Phil_314
also, why would the Ducks let Getzlaf (for Booth, Gragnani and 2 first round picks) and Perry (UFA, it seems like) go so easily?
thad
I don't really like the Anaheim trade, I'd rather keep the stuff we get from Tampa and see how kesler comes back next year. Connolly could be a sniper for the twins if he's ready and that would give burrows a spot with kesler. Reason is it makes our window smaller going all in like that when we could pull another blue chipper out of one of those picks. We're going to need that to stay competitive as our core ages. Like gillis said so many things have go right and you need a bit of luck to win the cup. But if your consistently knocking at the door your chances are much higher. If Getz and Kes are both not back to form try and make a midseason swap later, give or take a few pieces.
Watermelons
Aren't we overpaying to get Getzlaf? We are giving up: Connolly (young player with potential to be a top sniper) Tampa Bay 1st (10th overall) Vancouver 1st (26th overall) Marc Andre Gragnani (Last years AHL Top Defenseman) that is 3 first round picks and a offensive defenseman who can be our powerplay quarterback in the near future if developed properly....and we are getting Getzlaf in return so he can fill in for Kesler? What happens when Kesler comes back then? AV didn't seem to want to move him to the wing when Cody was here, do you know if Getzlaf plays wing or not? BTW: just to clarify, I'm all for getting Getzlaf but not if we have to overpay like that to get him
Glov10
Nice work! i Think that although we lost in the first round and need to make changes that Gillis won't make that many large scale changes in one off season Here is rough thought on what we should do: Trade Lu to Toronto for Schenn and Steckel. Not sure if we get the full value we should for Lu, but it gives us a good young defender that hits a tonne and blocks a lot of shots. It also gives us another center who can win face-offs and i believe can kill penalties. Then Sign Paul Gaustad for our 3rd line center role (can be 2nd line center until Kesler is back) Sign PA Parentau for our 2nd line winger Depending on how things go next year will depend on what changes we make to the roster in 2013 CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m) David Booth ($4.250m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / P-A Parenteau ($2.550m) Chris Higgins ($1.900m) / Paul Gaustad ($3.250m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.350m) David Steckel ($1.100m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Zack Kassian ($0.870m) Aaron Volpatti ($0.613m) / DEFENSEMEN Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m) / Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) Luke Schenn ($3.600m) / Alexander Edler ($3.250m) Keith Ballard ($4.200m) / Chris Tanev ($0.900m) Andrew Alberts ($1.225m) / Marc-Andre Gragnani ($0.750m) GOALTENDERS Cory Schneider ($3.500m) Chris Mason ($1.550m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,157,500; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $142,

Pears
This is propbably the biggest pipe dream (remember that word) roster for 2013-14 ever, but here it is: Signings: Scotty Hartnell: 2 years @ $10,000,000 ($5,000,000 annually) Ryan Getzlaf: 2 years @ $12,000,000 ($6,000,000 annually) Corey Perry: 2 years @ $12,000,000 ($6,000,000 annually) Shea Weber: 7 years @ $49,945,000 ($7,135,000 annually) Kevin Klein: 1 year at $2,000,000 Re-signings: Alex Burrows: 5 years at $22,500,000 ($4,500,000 annually) Alexander Edler: 5 years at $23,750,000 ($4,750,000 annually) Maxim Lapierre: 3 years at $4,200,000 ($1,400,000 annually) Chris Higgins: 3 years at $7,500,000 ($2,500,000 annually) My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) Scott Hartnell ($5.000m) / Ryan Getzlaf ($6.000m) / Corey Perry ($6.000m) Alex Burrows ($4.500m) / Jordan Schroeder ($1.025m) / Chris Higgins ($2.500m) Zack Kassian ($0.870m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.400m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.100m) DEFENSEMEN Alexander Edler ($4.750m) / Shea Weber ($7.135m) Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Chris Tanev ($0.900m) Kevin Connauton ($0.900m) / Kevin Klein ($2.000m) GOALTENDERS Corey Schneider ($3.500m) Eddie Lack ($0.900m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $72,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $70,180,000; BONUSES: $310,000 CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $1,820,000 This team is stacked to high heaven. Pears
Bieksa? Maybe you just forgot him, or you left him out on purpose, however he does have a NTC with which the team would have to deal. regards, G.
Franz Liszt
This is a response to each of you individually, since I didn't have time to go into full detail earlier. Squeak: I want Pahlsson because he is still a good defensive forward. I signed Moen and put him back with Pahlsson in hopes of having similar results from their 2007 playoff run, when they were the Ducks 3rd line. They gave opposing top lines fits, and individually themselves were all 0.5 PPG. (Moen - Pahlsson - R. Niedermayer) MessiNacity10: I overpayed a little for Getzlaf because other teams will be trying to get him as well. The other option I was thinking of was keepin the TBL 1st round pick (26th) and trading another good forward prospect like Schroeder. In that case, Connolly, Schroeder, Gragnani + 26th overall for Getzlaf, helping them for the future at center position. thad: You make a good point. Keeping a solid future with the pieces from the Tampa trade would be wonderful, and on the flip side, we could use some of those pieces for now instead of the future. When both Getzlaf & Kesler are back, that gives an extra player to play with the Sedins along with Burrows & Booth. monkeydluffy: Yes we'd be overpaying, but only by a hair. Getzlaf has stated that he doesn't like the way the Anaheim franchise is headed and wants to go to a Canadian team. From an outside perspective, like Vancouver's, that would immediately put Getzlaf on their radar. He's still a force, and only 26. Getzlaf played center and RW during the Olympics (when Perry wasn't on his line at times), and has played RW in the past. So Getzlaf and the Sedins may be a great line. But acquiring him would enable him to fill in for Kesler while he is out. Glov10: Nice work yourself! Steckel would help the size up front and so would Gaustad. I do not want Schenn though. Luke is overrated and he wasn't developed properly. I honestly would rather have Kubina. Pavel is durable, huge at 6'4 258 and very gritty. Though he is 35, he would be signed until 37, plus he clicked right away when he was paired with Carle. nd84: Yeah definitely. Its difficult to match the value for Getzlaf, but other teams will be going for him as well, so I slightly overpayed. Edler will be 27 and Burrows will be 32 at the end of their contracts. And they are both great players for our system and they both play with heart. I'd love to have them for 4 more seasons each, where they would be 31 & 35 at the end of their contracts. Steven Stamkos' Mullet: That is a pipe dream, but its not entirely impossible. Hartnell, Weber & Klein will probably stick with their current teams in my opinion. bobby loocid dreamer: I don't know what the cap ceiling will be, so I am just using the average of the past seasons since the salary cap was introduced. (increments of $5~ million)
Gollumpus
Yea I just left him out intentionally because I wasn't sure if he would still be on the Canucks or not that season. Also its due to the crazy amount of high end players that are UFA's that summer.

Franz Liszt
For those of you who are saying this is too much, why not refer to last year's offseason where the Panthers made 5 trades, and signed 10 free agents. This is similar, i'll agree, but it should be considered more realistic than the Panthers last year. Anything can happen, and I am praying Getzlaf will end up on the Canucks.
