[Proposal] Vancouver - Toronto

Recommended Posts

To Toronto:

Roberto Luongo

Mason Raymond (RFA Rights)

Chris Tanev

1st Round Pick (2012)

To Vancouver:

Luke Schenn

1st Round Pick (2012-5th Overall)

For Luke Schenn - Mason Raymond (RFA Rights) and Chris Tanev

- Canucks receive Luke Schenn, a very young and talented shutdown defenseman that will help Vancouver have potentially two shutdown pairings (Hamhuis-Bieksa, Edler-Schenn)

- Toronto receives a young defenseman in Chris Tanev who shows a lot of composure and solid defensive ability. Mason Raymond brings even more speed and offence to a fast Toronto team. This also addresses reported want for another top 6 forward (they wanted one on trade deadline day), He gives Toronto an option of trading away other players such as Nikolai Kulemin's RFA rights to obtain a high draft pick still in this years draft. Raymond can also be a key piece to a potential speed killing line with Lombardi or/and Grabovski

For Toronto's 1st round Pick (2012-5th Overall) - Roberto Luongo and 1st Round Pick (2012)

- Canucks receive a top 5 pick in this year's draft that they can use to draft Ryan Murray (if available) or Matt Dumba. This pick will further help the Canuck's defense grow,

- Toronto receives Roberto Luongo, a superstar goaltender that will certainly help address the Leafs' need for better goaltending. Furthermore, they still end up with a 1st Round Pick which they can still use in a package (whether it being with other picks or perhaps Kulemins RFA rights) to move up the draft standings.

We can possibly see any of these D pairings next season:

Hamhuis-Bieksa

Edler-Schenn

Ballard-Gragnani

Ballard-Dumba/Murray

I think Schenn would do well here, but why are we going after him if we have to give up Tanev to do it? Luongo and our 1st hold a lot of value, especially to a team with poor goaltending and a logjam on D. I'm pretty sure we won't have to beg anyone to take Lu and our 1st, so much so that we have to throw in one of our top prospects who's proven he can play in the NHL to get something back.

That's basically what a Canucks fan would rather see but reality is we have to take some kind of hit like trading Tanev.

Sauve and Gardiner would not make the thee deal strong enough. Toronto is reeaaaalllly high on Gardiner and though Schenn has been in the dog house numerous times in Toronto during the season, they still see potential in him at only 22 years old, and still realize they can still get something significant for him.
