Herberts Vasiljevs
If I may say so my self, the potential talent that could be drafted in the 1st round of this years' NHL Entry Draft is looking just as promising if not more promising than the 1st round in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_NHL_Entry_Draft#Round_one). There are some grade A prospects this year, especially on defense. Go down that list: Ryan Murray - (comparable to Scott Niedermeyer): http://eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=41768 Matt Dumba (<3) - (comparable to Dion Phaneuf (better attitude)): http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=53542 Morgan Reilly - (comparable to Erik Karlsson/Paul Coffey): http://eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=41184 Cody Ceci - (comparable to Dan Boyle): http://eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=45584 Griffin Reinhart - (comparable to Shea Weber): http://eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=41183 the list goes on.... I'll leave the rest of the research to all you folks I know this is beating an already dead horse, so I won't bring it up, but with (insert the obvious here) being in numerous rumors to get traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs (5th overall pick) or the Tampa Bay Lightning (10th overall pick), do we make a push for one of these top-10 draft picks? If you're into the draft just as much as I am, seeing the potential in guys like Teuvo Teräväinen (http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=44567) and Radek Faksa (http://eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=98300) makes this an opportunity too good to pass on. Plus; Morgan Rielly (Vancouver), and Griffin Reinhart (Vancouver) are BC boys, and so is one of my favourite prospects Dalton Thrower (Vancouver) (http://eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=45529), but he's expected to go later in the first round. Please share your thoughts! I believe this is a wonderful opportunity to bolster our youth within our system, especially if this team is looking to have their franchise's first ever actual elite d-man. Cheers. GO CANUCKS GO!!! nuck nit
I thought the window was closing for a Cup and then Gillis traded for prospects. Sure, bring us a Reinhart.Gillis is rebuilding in the tail end of the window, anyways.
goblix
I agree, Murray and Dumba look like good players, I think Dumba is more comparable to Doubty rather than Phaneuf myself. Dumba is very mobile much like Doubty and likes to step into hits like Doubty as well. With one of Luongo or Schneider heading out next year I'm sure we have a good shot at getting a top 5 pick without losing too much of our prospect pool. marleau_12
When you create a thread, each word in the thread title automatically get capitalized when you post it. Can't do anything about it, really...

Standing_Tall#37
Are you really this much of a stickler and a nit-picker for perfection? Unless your stupid, it's painfully obvious what I'm trying to say. Nothing like these nosy literary critics trolling around on CDC. Everybody makes mistakes. canuckistani
Actually, i've thought about this and IMO, we can do a good trade with something like this in mind: For example: Take the New York Islanders- languishing at the bottom, lots of cap space, in dire need of good, proven players who will lift their team from bottom-feeder status to the 8th-12th spot. Answer: trade David Booth & Keith ballard, along with MayRay for 1st round NYI and maybe a fringe player. Both ballard and booth are fairly decent when they get the prime-time minutes. With top line minutes and 1st Power-play time, Booth can be a 50-55 point player with 20-25 goal scorer. Ballard would probably be a 20-30 point producer in similar top PP scenario, partnered with the right guy. Raymond can be a 40-50 point producer in a top line/top PP position. these guys together represent 11 million in cap space who are getting tertiary minutes here ( Ballard will never get more minutes than Bieksa, Hamhuis or Edler- he is marginally worse than all three in their spefic roles, Booth is not going to be on the top line here, Raymond is not going to see consistent PP minutes, nevermind being a fixture on 2nd PP ). Plus, the NYI are already loaded on talent, they need some experience to contribute in the *now* and help those newbie talents along. Meanwhile, all these three are replacable in Vancouver for a similar salary on the FA market or even, a better deal on the FA market if we get the 'right' guys for the role these guys are playing ( a 2nd line winger, a 3rd D pairing & a 2nd/3rd line winger who is under-performing). .Naslund
Our prospects pool is running really low right now so something has to be done to fix that, hopefully we can get a couple more picks.
Southpop45
its never a bad idea to add talented young players but lets face it we need to get guys who can help us win now. Ryan Murray is the only one out of the bunch that can jump into the roster right away and maybe Reinhert because of is size. But the rest of those guys need to put on some serious weight before they are even considered ready to make the jump. Not to mention that this is the Canucks organization, an organization that is known for not rushing prospects into the lineup. if we are being realistic i dont think well be able to get higher than 10th overall (Tampa) in this draft year. You can say that ya Columbus and Toronto need goaltending but doubt we get either pick from them. Toronto will go hard for Nash and they only way I see Nash heading there is if they offer the 5th overall pick in some sort of package, which I can easily see Burke doing. Columbus on the other hand would have to be stupid to give up such a high draft pick when they are in a rebuild. My guess is they take Murray with the second pick solidifying their defence and go after a goalie in free agency. If Columbus cant find a goalie in free agency they will probably give Steve Mason another chance to redem himself.

Edler Is a Beast
We don't need prospects right now. We need roster players who can get results.
DownUndaCanuck
I'd rather try and win a cup with the pieces we have right now (Sedins, Luongo, Hamhuis, Edler, Kesler, Bieksa) than try and get younger and aim to peak in a few years time (Kassian, Tanev, Schneider, Schroeder). If the Canucks are going to win a cup right now it'll be with our current core, not our future core, so we should try and be complementing them. Getting a future stud defenceman in Murray will not help them now - he will most likely not see much time in the first few seasons of play. Very rarely do young defencemen shine in their first few years. If anything we should aim to get younger up front. Rookies are leading the way for NYR and NJD right now, which is where we really needed to keep Hodgson.

sedins2233
Does the H stand for Herbert the pervert? Eh... Moving along I'd be happy if the Canucks had two 15ish-25ish picks and took Colton Sissons and Lukas Sutter. Maybe even Dalton Thrower...if they could get all 3 of those guys somehow I'd be very happy
