Discussion] Vincent Lacavalier

Recommended Posts

IF Luongo was potentially traded to TB. There is a serious possibilty Lacavalier might be coming our way in exchange. Other players/prospects could be included in this deal but these are the two key names.

If Lacavalier were to come here, it would push Kesler to the wing. I'd be fine with this deal especially because we are getting a big,play-making centre in return.

My question is, what are your thoughts about Lacavalier and do you think he can produce if he is traded here? his production has slowed down recently but the quality of his line-mates has declined also. In the past few years he has gone from playing with Brad Richards and Martin St.Louis to Ryan Malone and some make-shift Left-Winger..

I think he can but he would cause problems with the cap

Great guys like Lapierre, Higgins, EDLER and BURROWS will have their contracts expiring after next season and we will need cap room for them to sign. They should be getting significant raises.

We can explore other options that put us in better situations

No foot speed or finish any more. Lecavalier is definitely a possibility if only for his massive contract.

If Luongo got chased out of Vancouver for decent play and a 5.3m cap hit, then how would Lecavalier fair with a 7m cap hit and sub par play? Answered my own question.

Lecavalier plays centre mainly, meaning he could be in the 2nd line centre role while Kesler is out to start the season. Lecavalier is a big body and a power forward, there was a time when Canucks needed a go-to the net type guy but I fear we might have too many with Kesler, Booth, and Kassian. I think we need a play making ~3-4m 2nd line centre who can fill the void while Kesler is gone and boost the offense on the 3rd line when he returns. Real question is can Schroeder fill this role for substantially cheaper?

he is one my fav players but that contract is a killer

that contract says bye bye to any chance at weber, ryan or any other impact player that i have higher on my wishlist

he should still go to mtl...they need a big center, it would rejuvenate his career, and mtl needs a impact forward....he might not be the 40 goal 85 point player he once was but i dont think a solid 30-35goal/65-70 point year is out of the question

to mtl: vinny

to tb: gomez, mitera, eller (RFA rights), 1st pick 2013

gomez is just a safety net if they cant find a better 2nd line center after they trade away vinny...they trade a bad contract for a bad contract but it only has two years left instead of 8

i like vinny lecavalier, but his contract is killer, and he hasn't been producing all that much in the last few years.. Kind of worries me a little, but i do like Lecavalier, just.. that contract...

I think he's in need of a change aswell. Since we will need a Center to replace Kesler for half the season, I say him for Luongo is a good deal.

Looks like a Stanely Cup contending team if you ask me, and all very realistic.

Lots of options for the coaching staff, and every opportunity for any player to move up lines considering the depth in place.

Salo could show Tanev how to contribute offensively.
