2012-13 Youth Movement ....just For The Start Of The Season, While Kesler Heals

Couple of reasons why I think we should give are prospects a chance to start the season with the team.

- Keslers replacement is not going to come via a trade or a free agent. Who ever steps up to help fill that void is going to have to be from within the organisation. Schroeder has the potential to be a 2nd line center, so why not give him a shot at it for the first month while Kesler is out.

-Kassian should not be playing in the AHL next season, hes NHL ready , hes big, can hit, and he can skate, playing in the NHL will help him develop his game better then the AHL.

-Jensen is the wild card, out of the forwards, hes the youngest out of the bunch, but hes the favorite to make it among NHL scouts. If the scouts believe hes are best prospect right now, I want too see what he's got.

-When it comes to defencemen , I think we should have Gragnani or Tanev alternating out the the bottom 2. With so many young guys starting at forward the Canucks are better off having more veterans playing D.

- One of AV's biggest criticisms is not giving prospects any playing time. With his new contract freshly signed maybe it will help get some critics off his back if he did let them start the first 15 games or so.

-The start of the season is the best time to be experimenting, it leaves room for them to catch up if there experiment doesn't go well. Besides teams like the Oilers and the Laughs are usually the best teams to start the season anyways. It usually takes teams about 3 months to settle down and figure each other out.

-The NHL is getting younger and younger, season after season, the Canucks are not following that trend. Now in days in the cap era, teams need young players with cheap contracts that are able to play at high levels. Hawks won that way , the Bruins too, and Philly was so stacked this year because of all there young guys low salaries(this offseason will be an interesting one for them).

- Who knows we may have the next Sean Couturier, Adam Henrique, or Carl Hagelin already in are system.

-All I'm saying is at least give are prospects a real chance to shine in the NHL during the first 15 games or so.

Here is a lineup i wouldn't mind seeing to start the season

or at least until the Luongo(maybe Schneider) trade happens and when Kesler comes back

- My main reason to let the kids play........ KEEP LUONGO AND SCHNEIDER..... 1 more year as a tandem, keeping them together gives us are best shot at winning Lord Stanley.....

-If not the whole season, keep both of them untill the goalie market really heats up, teams usually know they have goaltending issues when its closer to the all star break. Right now the market is kinda cold especially with Lu's limited no trade clause.

i really want kassian to rip it up... but i think he is much too defensively weak. canucks are a team built on team defence, and with AV's extension, that won't be changing anytime soon.

gragnani deserves another look... his offensive numbers in lower leagues have been amazing - but will he be given a shot to play without a leash? i guess we'll see, but i think he is a potential wildcard for us, especially if salo 's career is done.

You seriously pick at kassians defensive play during his short exposure, state the Canucks are a defense first team and then suggest gragnani the most defensively irresponsible player on the team as a future replacement for salo?!?!?!?

Gnarly.

i say it works for the forwards, only tanev for the d.

malholtra and salo are question marks.

malholtra might work - hope he does, but he shies away from the tough areas now, can't see him being anything but a healthy scratch / 4th line faceoff specialist. kind of F3dks up the 4th line with him jumping on and off the ice, that's for sure. weird.

would love salo to stay, but he really started slowing down. he needs to be on the 3rd pairing.

ballard: he showed signs of being a solid player. but the team really needs someone to play with edler in the top 4. is it ballard? probably not. i can see garrison coming in and replacing salo in top 4, which might kick edler into shape. that leaves tanev and salo and ballard for the 5,6,7 d-men. i would play tanev and ballard. let sami spot in 10 min a game and be fresh for playoffs?

is schroeder too small? probably, and if so is a waste of a pick... Jensen might really work though. I think this organization took 4 years to realize that it can draft skill, speed AND size. And rightly so, if the rules didn't change again, size wouldn't matter. But welcome to the new nhl again, gladiator sport sort of..

i disagree, with all due respect.

we don't need one dimensional players like konopka or tootoo. that's not our identity. if you are proposing to do a complete makeover of the philosophy of the team, i.e. puck possession game based on speed and skill, that's not going to work.

also edler can only play the left side of the D. same for hamhuis. bieksa is much better on the right side.

kassian should play more minutes than 4th line if we care about his development. if kassian comes to camp improved as we expect him to, hopefully he can start playing some meaningful minutes with the sedins. need a big body with the sedins.

the absolute ideal situation would be to have kassian and jensen develop fast and make the team in my opinion.

daniel - henrik - kassian

booth - kesler - jensen

higgins - schroeder - burrows

malhotra - lapierre - hansen

we all know AV will change up the RW all over the line up, but that would be a good starting place.

Defensemen next season would absolutely change if Justin Schultz were to choose the nucks. So let's wait until what happens with him first.

yeah thats right - i pick at the guy playing 4th line, who has been a positive player once in his career... and i want to see the defenceman who has put up about the same amount of points in a league considered better than the OHL by everyone...

thats right... the guy with no AHL experience is who i'm less willing to gamble on... versus the defenseman who really doesnt have much more to prove in the AHL

you've heard of the eddie shore award right?

Gnarly... now get on your knees
