A Low Risk & Potentially Good Reward Van-Fla Proposal.

Recommended Posts

Lappy isn't going anywhere. He is a versatile grinder with some touch. No way we give that up. Plus he could have a break out year next year.

No way we move Higgins either. Higgins is never a liability on the ice, and can contribute offensively. Versatile. Why get rid of that?

FLA has no major reason to move Santorelli. His cap hit is small and he has 1 year left before becoming an RFA. More value would have be involved from our side. i could see Raymond being intriguing FLA.

You can bring all the Florida team if you want.

I think what we have seen this year and last year is you need leaders on a team not only with talent but with grit , heart and leadership.

The twins might be great for the season..but in the playoffs they cannot upgrade their play to the next level..until they do we will never win anything..Plus they are both getting older.

The whole team is getting older.

We need a movement of youth..and a captain with strong leadership who can bring some fire and intensity to a team that has a lot of what it takes to win a Stanley Cup.

Don t believe Vigneault brings that intensity or fire to this team either.

Nice guys always finish last. and that is the case with 2 classy guys Vigneaut and Hank

Santorelli's not big or defensively capable enough to be the two-way 3rd line center that this team really could use for the playoffs as an upgrade on Pahlsson, and with the up and down in production between last season and the season before it raises questions about his suitability of him on the 2nd to be Kes' play maker, IMO.

Yeah but its low risk, that the thing, if he doesn't pan out to be on our top 9 he could always be used as a good 4th player, it's not like we are giving up much,

Its a minor move that could be a great move but if not then its no big deal.

That bottom six would be this;

Prust - Schroeder - Higgins

Kassian - Lapierre - Hansen

If Schroeder stays/is ready for a top six role:

Prust - Stoll - Higgins

Kassian - Lapierre - Hansen

Make Santorelli is a player who has had and absoultely brutal season for Florida this season, 9 goals and 2 assists in 60 games, and he spent time on the 4th line and as a healthy scratch later in the season. But before that in 2010-11 he scored 20 goals and was a reliable 2nd/3rd line center for Florida.

I'd say no to this.

The team already has a goodly number of centers here, and with Schroeder likely coming up for some time until Kesler returns, he can fill the small, skilled center role . Further, there could be an additional center showing up as part of the assumed goalie trade.

He's not particularly big and if looks like there is a movement to make the team "bigger".

And trading Lapierre, who is a guy who looks like he could be becoming a Burrows type of guy (mostly in the sense that his on ice value is greater than what he is paid) is just crazy talk. :)

Parent is a pending RFA, unless what you meant is that you think Gillis won't try to re-sign him. Otherwise, I suspect that he (or his rights) will be traded this year likely as part of a package.

Well, the Canucks do need a top-6 forward, but I would agree that a top-4 d-man is a higher priority (like a 1A and 1B type of thing).

Goaltending is not a "problem". Either of the guys who are currently here will be traded, or they won't. A back-up will be sought out, unless one is not needed because they are both staying. The problem with goaltending is if they both stay, and then how do the Canucks get the assets they want?

The problem set is: 1.) defense, 2.) top-6 right winger, 3.) look for any upgrades in 4th line wingers, and 4.) re-stock the prospect pool.

Potentially, with free agency, advancement from within the ranks and trading one of their goalies the Canucks can address all of these points.

regards,

G.

We dont need another fringe 3rd liner.

We need a solid top 2 puck moving PPQB D man, and/or a playmaking top 6 winger to help optimize the production of Booth and Kesler, and/or a good 2 way 3rd line center, and/or tough 4th line winger with size.

Jordan Schroeder, Zack Kassian, or Niclas Jensen might be able to fill one or two of the forward roles... Chris Tanev might evolve into a well rounded 3/4 Dman.... And even Mason Raymond might really benefit from a full off season of stregnth training... He's responsable on the back check, and who knows, there might just be another 25 goal season in there... somewhere...

We wont have any idea if these players will be able to contribute the level that is needed in these specific roles for this team to be considered heavy contenders untill we see them in action. Its obvious that the largest whole is the D considering the lack of options currently within the system. At least there are some possibilities up front, albeit unkown possibilities.

Praying that Gillis finds some way to sign Justin Schultz.... The kid is oozing with offensive abilities and strong puck moving potential, and could make a very solid pairing beside Hammer.

As much as another top 6 forward might help the offence, I think a creative puck moving Dman would be of more benefit to the transition game, and better utilize the speed up front, resulting in a much stronger offensive production off the rush.... Aswell as giving us another weapon from the point.

carreer -40... under a hit per game... 45% on faceoffs last year... frequent healthy scratch on the Panthers.... and didnt dress for 1 playoff game. 5 of his 9 goals came against Toronto, Winnipeg and Tampa Bay... and only 2 assists in 60 games?

I fail to see the upside..... Maybe as a two way contract through UFA... But theres no way Id give up any assets for him.
