Van-Det, Van-Tor and other off-season moves

Recommended Posts

With Lidstrom expected to retire tommorow he will be leaving a large gap on Detroit blue-line, and may be an opportunity for Vancouver to capitalize on.

Det: Edler, Ballard, 2nd

Van: Holmstrom, Ericsson, Tatar, Abdelkader

Tomas Holmstrom brings depth, grit, toughness and a ring to a line-up that lacks all of the above. He is a veteran presence and would be great to have on the 2nd PP so they can actually create some good chances. Ericsson brings a big defensive defence man to the team which is also an area where the Canucks lack and it was exploited in the playoffs. Tomas Tatar is a very skilled prospect expected to break into the Detroit this year and be a contributor, in my opinion is a better option to fill in for Kesler while he is rehabbing. Tatar will also help find more third line offence that we lost when Cody was Traded. Finally Abdelkader provides a true fourth liner who could also move into a third line role.

Tor: Luongo, Raymond, Malholtra

Van: Komisarek, 1st

Luongo to Toronto is the obvious descision and giving them Raymond (who may have better years in Toronto) and Malholtra ( A true third line centre opposed to Connolly) may make it easier for Burke to part ways with his pick, if all else fails we could probably add in our first as well. Komisarek is a player who could prove to have great up-swing or just amount to being a good shut-down guy.

Signing Knopka gives us a player to make the fourth line competitive to earn the ice time as well as being a safety net fourth line centre while Keslers gone. Bryan Allen is another D-man who could help out in our defensive zone. Garrison will help to make up some of the points lost by Edler being traded. Schultz is a great investment towards our future on the blue-line and him being a home-town boy certainly doesn't hurt, I wouldnt be suprised if he decided to pick Edmonton over Vancouver though. P.A. Parenteau may solve our playmaker problem when he is inserted on the second line and he would make us very lethal not only on that second line but helping out on the second powerplay unit!

The depth we've acquired also helps to let Kassian ride it out and develop for one more year in the minors before being called upon to live up to being a menacing power forward. What we do with our picks i have no idea but im leaning toward defense.

Feel free to leave suggestions and coments :)
