(Discussion) Would You Sacrifice One Year Of The Future For Getzlaf & Perry?

Recommended Posts

Hi.

The question is in the title.

Getzlaf has stated that he would like to play for a Canadian team and that he doesn't really like the way the Ducks franchise is headed in. I think that Perry would follow suit if Getzlaf wanted out and that they have great chemistry.

Here are my points regarding why I would and wouldn't sacrifice some future:

WOULD:

- Gaining Getzlaf & Perry gives us two 1st lines

- We have better players for the future like Kassian, Jensen & Corrado

- Schroeder, Rodin, Sweatt & Tanev are players who can get us younger NHL ready players (in packages)

- Perry & Getzlaf add size to our top-6 and would get us pushed around

- They both have playoff experience and more importantly, a cup ring each

WOULD NOT:

- To keep the line moving of our developing prospects

- Keep our AHL team a competitive team in their league

- Trading away our younger defensemen is a complete no. They are super valuable

- Our depth may fall off incase of a boat load of injuries (though Gillis restocks through free agency)

- Perry & Getzlaf may walk after this coming season, as they are both UFA's

Would you try and acquire Getzlaf and/or Perry?

EDIT: I'll be making a proposal later on tonight regarding this thread.

omg Perry and Getzlaf are not going anywhere wow. They are the type of players that are hard to find. Perry has had the most goals in the NHL behind Stamkos the last 2 years. Why in the world would the Ducks trade him? It's like saying Tampa Bay trading Stamkos. Getzlaf when healthy is one of the few centers that are big bodied and physical, sick hand eye coordination, and averages a point a game minimum. Just because he had an offseason last year doesn't mean the Ducks will trade him. I don't know why people keep suggesting that Ducks might trade them both. I can guarantee you that if the Ducks would trade anyone from their top line, it would only be Ryan, and that only if the deal is really good.

Getzlaf had a horrible year and has declined the past 3 seasons. He wasn't very good at the World's and I believe ANAHEIM has too many power-forwards and not enough skilled, fast, finesse players like Kesler,Schroeder and Booth.

I wouldn't mind giving this up to get Getz and Perry

To ANA-Edler,Kesler, 1st rd pick

To VAN-Perry Getzlaf

THEN....

To TOR-Luongo,Raymond

To VAN-Franson,Colbourne

To MIN-2nd rd pick

To VAN-Latendresse (Rights)

Sign

-Garrison

-Moen

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows

Booth-Getzlaf-Perry

Higgins-Colbourne-Hansen

Moen-Lapierre-Latendresse (All played together in Montreal. ALL are good friends)

Bieksa-Hamhuis

Franson-Garrison

Tanev-Connauton/Ballard

Salo

Schneider

Getzlaf and Perry are both only 27 years old, and whether or not Kesler is part of the offer, he is only 28... assuming tthey would sign here those three give us a real nice future. If they can be productive until 35ish that means 7 or 8 years of good hockey.

Schneider for Perry straight up.

Sedin - Sedin - Perry

Booth - Kesler - Higgins

Burrows - Lapierre - Hansen

Bitz - Malhotra - Kassian

But we need quality defencemen more than we need star forwards right now.

TBH I don't think VAN's picks and prospects would interest ANA (outside of Hodgson).

I think it would be closer to:

ANA: Luongo, Kesler, Booth

VAN: Getzlaf, Perry, Hiller

FWIW I don't think it's worth the risk unless there are internal issues with both teams.

If ANA is in a position where they know Getzalf/Perry won't extend or are not prepared to pay their raises, then all 3 players heading back should be attractive to ANA because they have at least 3 years left on their contracts at reasonable cap hits. Booth - Kesler - Ryan would be a heck of a line. And by most evaluations, Luongo > Hiller.

VAN would need to be extremely confident that they can re-sign both players after this season but of course there is no guarantee. Luongo also has to agree to the destination. Kesler's NTC kicks in soon too I think.
