Need help in deciding which headphones to get

I've been wanting to own a pair of over-ear headphones for a while, and since I'll be on a 14 hour flight in August, I thought it would be time to actually get a pair now.

Does anyone here know of any good models to get?

I'm looking for:

  • good sound quality (I'm a semi-audiophile)

  • comfortable wearing for long periods of time

  • A cord that's short enough for travel (10 ft. cords aren't exactly portable)

  • Preferably under $200

Thanks in advance!

If you're a casual listener and interested in "good enough", why promote headphones that cost $300?

Just admit that the most important thing is the label. As is, the Beats fit very few of the original poster's criteria.

I have a set of Sennheiser ear buds that I have had since 2009 which were $50. They are so light and soft and have incredible sound.

I know you said over ear, so i'm assuming the quality would be the same from Sennheiser.

Get these:

The clarity on these is incredible. They're meant for recording and DJ'ing, but I use them for Music, Movies, Games... whatever.

They're also great for flying, cancels the plane noise out almost completely without any music playing.

If you need more reassurance, these headphones are considered to be one of the top 10 in the world:

Overall though, best advice is to just go try some out and find out which one is best for you. It's all preference.

I would, but most electronic stores don't have every pair of headphones out for one to try. Also, once I buy headphones and try them on, I can't refund them for hygenic reasons; that's how I ended up with a pair of Sennheiser's (HD 202 II) that I don't like because the mid range is cold and it's too tight for comfort.
