MINNESOTA WILD PRESS RELEASE

Minnesota is pleased to welcome Corey Perry and Martin Brodeur to the team. At the same time, we wish to thank Ilya Bryzgalov, Kyle Beach, Taylor Chorney, and Jake Dowell for their contributions to the team over the past year and a half.

While Brodeur has a few years left on his contract, Perry would undoubtedly be one of the most sought after UFA players this summer and rumors have swirled that he could be testing the free agent market come July 1. When asked, Minnesota GM wallstreetamigo was unfazed by his impending free agent status.

"We finished 28th in the league last season and this year we are battling for a playoff spot at the deadline. Our fans have been patient. Our current players have busted their butts all season long and believe they can not just make the playoffs but compete once they are there. Sometimes you have to take a calculated risk to get better. Sometimes you have to take the cue from your players and coaches and give them the pieces they need to take the next step instead of taking the safe road of the status quo, which would have certainly been the easiest road to take with a high pick. In my mind, this trade makes us better today though and shows the players and fans that we are serious about winning a Stanley Cup in this city."

Minnesota currently sits in 9th place in the West, just 19 points out of the 8th and final playoff spot.

"When we weighed another high 1st round pick in a very deep draft against the chance to show our fans and our players that we are serious about winning, the choice to move forward with this deal was clear" said wallstreetamigo. "Nashville GM Nail Yakupov was a pleasure to deal with throughout this process and we thank him for working with us to get a deal done."

What happens if Perry walks away as a UFA in the summer?

"This was not a rental to us but a long term deal in our minds. Corey is the guy we wanted long term and we feel that he is a player we can build our team around. We took a chance and paid a high price to get him here. We are determined to show him over the next few months that he is a key piece of Minnesota's resurgence going forward. We will do everything possible to keep him in a Minnesota jersey for a very long time. We are not considering anything other than that at this point."

The deal also brings a new goaltending presence to Minnesota. Why a 40 year old goalie and why now?

"Martin Brodeur is one of the greatest goalies of all time and no matter what our playoff fortunes this season, we are proud to have a player and a leader of that calibre on our team. When you have a chance to add Martin Brodeur you do not ask why now. You add him for all the things he brings on and off the ice. That veteran presence and winning pedigree that all teams need. We are thrilled to have him here and are now looking to add a young future starting netminder who he can mentor."

To get you have to give and wallstreetamigo praised the outgoing players, many of whom were here when he took over as GM prior to last season.

"Ilya Bryzgalov did everything asked of him under sometimes difficult circumstances, including media and fan scrutiny. But for a team that has almost completely turned over our roster in a year and struggled last season he was a bright spot for us and his contributions cannot be overstated. Many nights he was by far our best player on the ice. We know that for a rebuilding Nashville organization Ilya will provide that same stablility going forward and we wish him all the best."

Facing the need to clear some minor league salary and roster spots, some good prospects and depth players were also moved out.

"Kyle Beach and Taylor Chorney are both solid younger players who just need a shot in the bigs. Jake Dowell is a solid veteran presence on any team. With our roster being crowded they were not going to get a fair opportunity here. In Nashville they will hopefully have more of a chance to be a part of something there. We wish them both luck and thank them."

When asked if Minnesota is now done with moves prior to the deadline, WSA was quick to answer. "We will be working the phones and doing all we can to make our team better right up until the trade deadline. There is no such thing as good enough in Minnesota anymore."
