^ I think its pretty cool overall. Sad to not be in the hunt, but next year. The west is really tight for a lot of teams and things are still undecided in the east as well. Now that the trade deadline is over, I am looking more and more at next years divisions...its going to be good!

I can't help but think, by maps, if Quebec stays in Quebec and we balance the divisions that the Avs would bump over Divsion A(pacific) based on Geography and then two teams would bump to Division B(Central) and I wonder if they would be Detroit and Columbus based on geography or if it would be the two in florida to make it tidier looking...I am very curious about what plan we will have in place if we choose to balance the conferences out by shuffling teams within the Division...personally I am very much in favour of mimicking the NHL exactly. That would mean unbalanced conferences and quebec goes back to phoenix's spot...but could still be called quebec

EDIT: I just wanted to add that I am cool withwhatever the executive decides, I am just putting in my two cents. I am easy on it..whatever the plan is I am sure it will be in place plenty early enough before the season which will be fair for all involved. That being said: the realism of this league makes it unique and that is why i am in favour of doing the exact NHL structure.

On a lighter note, anyone that has not looked at the real NHL standings lately, Noon today is Winnipeg vs Philly...its the Jets 40th game of the year, and will define their post season chances IMO. WIn or lose, they will have either 40 points or 38 points with just 8 games left....yikes.

I want the Canadian team in the playoffs..but this is dicey at best eh? Philly will still have two games in hand and a win will put Philly at 39 points.

Rangers Prospect Update!

The New York Rangers have no 2011 draftees that are unsigned in our system, however we do hold four of the 2012 draft class in our unsigned prospect pool. Where are they now? A season later, lets review the Rangers Draft 2012.

37th overall: Ville Pokka : Six points in six games at the last World Juniors while also scoring 12 points and staying plus 2 in 47 games in the SM Liiga, the 'Finnish Elite League'. Ville continues to look strong and we are still excited that he was available at 37th pick as in the NHL he went 34th to the New York Islanders and was projected to squeak into the first round.

59th overall Mikko Vainonen : Drafted 118th overall by the Nashville Predators in the NHL draft, Mikko is enjoying huge success in his first season in North America. With 22 points in 55 games with the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs and a great 3 points in 4 games of the playoffs before Kingston was eliminated. Mikko is another top Finnish Defender who will make a name in North America.

62nd overall Joonas Korpisalo : We nailed this one right on the nose. Joonas was drafted 62nd overall by Columbus in the NHL as well as the GML draft. Joonas continues to develop in Finnland posting 2.67gaa and .914 save% in 13 Jr SM games and 2.71gaa in 18 Finnland2 games. With the netminding trend of the NHL be moving towards later 20's entry level goalies, we feel confident that Joonas will continue to evolve into the player we envisioned at the draft despite a setback posting 3.36gaa at the World Juniors.

72nd overal Patrick Sieloff : A decent steal in the GML draft, Patrick ended up going 42nd overall in the NHL draft to the Calgary Flames. with 11 points in 45 OHL games and a point at the World Juniors we envision Patrick to grow into a solid steadying influence on the blueline with some offensive upside due to his crisp and accurate passing.

All in all, we are very pleased with our crop of 2012 draftees, we selected a total of 5 and not one of them a first round pick, a year later, we feel we made some strong choices, and look forward to watching them grow.

Nice read from our Goalie Prospect Niklas Svedberg...

http://theahl.com/svedberg-s-goal-is-simple-to-win-p183012

..may it was a good thing that we didnt got Helberg in the last Off Season and signed Niklas instead.

The Blues are hopefully....and with Kuemper we have another Talented Young Goalie.

A Problem Zone in the Team could be a strong one in some Years

] Svedberg's goal is simple: to win

NHL.com

It’s every goaltender’s job to avoid goals.

Maybe that’s why Niklas Svedberg only has one: “You play hockey because you want to win hockey games.”

And win he has. The Providence Bruins rookie has amassed a 32-8-2 record in his first season in the American Hockey League, with no signs of slowing down.

“There’s no reason to have any other goal than winning,” he said. “That’s the mindset to have.”

Signed by the Boston Bruins last May, the 23-year-old Swedish netminder has been winning in Providence ever since. Now almost a year later, the P-Bruins are comfortably at the top of the Atlantic Division and on the brink of their first trip to the AHL postseason since 2009.

“[svedberg’s] been great from day one,” said Providence head coach Bruce Cassidy. “Like every other team, when you’ve got a lot of faith in your goaltender, you play a little looser. He’s there to make the saves when we need him.”

Svedberg’s achievements haven’t gone unnoticed. He represented the host team at the 2013 Dunkin’ Donuts AHL All-Star Classic in Providence in late January, and was tapped as the CCM/AHL Rookie of the Month for March.

“I’m grateful and it’s nice to get those types of things, but I have to thank my teammates and the staff, because they help me with everything,” Svedberg said. “Playing hockey my first year in North America, it’s been a great experience and I’m enjoying it.”

As he points out, although he’s a rookie by AHL standards, he’s no rookie. Before signing with Boston, Svedberg spent three years honing his skills in the Swedish Elite League and even won a championship with Brynas in his final season.

“The best way to describe him is he’s a very competitive person, but under control,” said Cassidy. “He’s good at closing out games.

“He battles through it. That’s why he wins a lot of games and I’m sure that’s why he won a championship last year in Sweden.”

Ranking among the AHL’s leaders this season in goals-against average (2.26) and save percentage (.922) as well as victories, Svedberg has lost just twice in regulation over the past three months, including a 20-1-1 stretch from Jan. 4 until Mar. 29.

Almost 4,000 miles away from his home, Svedberg insists that his adjustment to the North American game has been smooth.

“It’s a little bit different because of the bigger rinks (in Europe), but I would say it’s pretty close,” he said. “As a goalie, I try to play the same game that I played back home over here. But it’s been great to play in the American Hockey League. It’s a really good league and you meet a lot of good players.”

As Svedberg grows into his identity as a future NHLer, he says he has his coaching staff and team to thank.

“I’ve got good help over here from the organization giving me a chance to play and helping me work on details,” he said. “I’m part of a good team with good players, which helps.”

Though only time will tell where Svedberg’s development is headed, Coach Cassidy recognizes some familiar marks in his game.

“He’s got some of Tim [Thomas] in him with his battle level and some of [Anton] Khudobin in him with the way he competes in the crease,” Cassidy said. “He’s a guy that knows how to win games and rises up to those moments.”

Svedberg, Cassidy and the rest of their Providence squad will soon be tested in that regard, as the regular season winds down and the Calder Cup Playoffs start up.

As they enter a three-game weekend, they know one win would secure their spot in the playoffs. And Svedberg knows that one goal could make all the difference.

“For me as a goalie, I just want to play as good as possible every game,” he said. “The goal is win the Calder Cup. That’s what I like about this team. Everyone wants to win and everyone believes we can win as well.

“It’s a long way to go and in the playoffs it’s going to be the very small details that matter. But that’s my goal -- to win here.”
