Marty Turco - In the event of a Luongo trade

Recommended Posts

If Luongo gets dealt, we will need a solid tender for backup. Not one for a billion dollars, but someone who can pick up any slack if Schneider hits a cold streak, or gets injured, and do it for a reasonable price.

I would propose Marty Turco for that role for a number of reasons; the first being as a backup, he would definitely be servicable. His career bests are likely behind him, but with the solid defence of the Canucks, it's unlikely he would really poop the bed - he's still got it in him somewhere to win a game by himself; he did it enough in the past.

Another reason is his experience. With Schneider being 'young' at the game and without a full season, Marty has a wealth of experience that may be useful to Schneider, as well as a balancing factor on the team.

Yet another reason is his best asset; and Schneider's worst issue - puckhandling. If he could teach Schneider anything about puck handling, it would be a huge boon to the young netminder.

I think if Turco would be available for a reasonable price, he would make a good backup for the season while Lack gets another solid year in the AHL as the starter.
