Wesley Myron Talk

In the BCHL as a 19 year old? Not so much.

Really? That pace would put him in the top 5 in league scoring if he doesn't get hurt. Also, of the top ten scorers in the BCHL, 4 were 92 birth dates like Myron, 4 were 93's, one was a 91, and only the highly touted Jujhar Khaira, the 63rd overall pick this draft was a first year draft eligible 94 birth date.

I'm impressed!

BOSTON - Head coach Jack Parker has announced that nine newcomers will comprise the Class of 2016 for the Boston University men's ice hockey program. The group includes five forwards, two defensemen and two goaltenders.

"It's safe to say that we have very high expectations for this year's incoming group," said Parker, who enters his 40th season as head coach of the Terriers. "We got what we needed in numbers and we've gotten better in overall depth up front. We've added two highly skilled defensemen and changed the look of our team a little bit with more physical forwards."

Five of this year's newcomers were selected in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft this summer and three members of that group helped Team USA capture its fourth straight gold medal at the U-18 World Championship. The two goaltenders in the class were standouts in their respective leagues (BCHL, USHL) and will be counted on to excel while quickly adjusting to the college game.

"The importance of the two goaltenders makes or breaks the class because that position is so important, but we think we got two real good ones," added Parker.

The team returns to campus this week and will begin preparations for the 2012-13 season, which begins with a home exhibition against the University of Toronto on Sunday, Oct. 7.

Matt Grzelcyk

Parker on Grzelcyk: "We feel that Grzelcyk will be an impact player in every phase of the game for us. He'll get power-play time and he's a real smart defensive player on the initial rush, down low, killing penalties. He'll get a lot of ice time right off the bat. He's a guy who has a lot of poise and gives his teammates a lot of confidence."

Sam Kurker

Parker on Kurker: "Kurker is very talented and can play on the top two lines or the third and fourth lines. It doesn't matter where you put him, he'll produce points and give us a physical presence. We were originally going to take him next year, but he was playing so well we decided to take him now."

Matt Lane

Parker on Lane: "We're really excited to get Matt in the fold. He's a very talented, strong-skating left wing who really came on in the second half of the year for the Under-18 Team. He performed extremely well in the international tournaments and he's going to bring strength, speed and a pretty good scoring touch to the forward group."

Parker on Maguire: "Maguire's a big guy who fills a lot of the net and he's got a lot of talent. He had a real good junior career in Canada. We've known him for a couple of years and really like him. We knew we were coming to this point where we were losing two senior goalies and we were very fortunate to get him."

Mike Moran

Played 2011-12 season in BCHL with Victoria Grizzlies - where he was an assistant captain and on same line as fellow BU recruit Wesley Myron - and Penticton Vees, tallying a combined 46 points (18g, 28a) in 39 contests, before returning to Massachusetts to join Bay State (11-4--15 in 18 games) for the end of their season ... 2010-11 team captain at Taft School, where he scored a team-high 13 goals and tied for team lead in points with 23 ... Parker on Moran "Moran's a hard-nosed, big, strong skater. He's going to give us depth on the wing. He could establish himself pretty early as filling a void that we have, and that's size and physical play."

Wesley Myron

Parker on Myron: "Myron's a big, strong center iceman who can play the wing as well. He's a good puck handler and a good point producer. He should fit in on the power play and be on our top three lines for sure."

Matt O'Connor

G • 6-5 • 195 • Toronto, Ont. • Youngstown Phantoms (USHL)

Spent last two seasons with Youngstown, helping Phantoms reach 2012 USHL Eastern Conference semifinals ... Was OJHL's only 16-year-old goalie in 2008-09 for expansion Upper Canada club.

Parker on O'Connor: "Matt's another goalie with great size. He was the backstop of a pretty good USHL team, but he was the go-to guy for that team. He saw a lot of pucks. He had a real good career there, and despite an injury that kept him back a little bit, he emerged as one of the premier goalies in the league. We're confident that he and Maguire can give us a one-two punch right off the bat."

Ahti Oksanen

D • 6-3 • 195 • Espoo, Finland • Espoo Blues (Jr. A SM-Liiga)

Top scoring defenseman for Espoo Blues U20s in 2011-12 with 41 points (14g, 27a) in 51 games ... Ranked 66th among European skaters this past year by NHL Central Scouting.

Parker on Oksanen: "We were very fortunate to get a player of Ahti's caliber so late in the game. He is a very skilled defenseman who should step right in and develop into a very good player in our league. He will fill the gap left behind by Adam Clendening's early departure."

Danny O'Regan

F • 5-10 • 175 • Needham, Mass. • St. Sebastian's

Joined the U.S. National Under-18 Team after a standout career at St. Sebastian's ... Named to 2012 MIAA All-State First Team after recording 60 points (32g, 28a) as a senior ... Parker on O'Regan: "Danny's another guy we thought would be coming in September of 2013, but he played extremely well in his senior year at St. Sebastian's. We've known about him for a while since he's Tommy's son. He's always been a very clever guy and a great player in his age group. He excelled in international competition for the Under-18 Team and there's a good possibility he'll be a first- or second-line center for us."

Myron got his first point (a goal) of the season tonight. he took 1 shot, was +3, and blocked 2 shots as well.

Nov. 16, 2012

Box Score

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The No. 11 Boston University men's ice hockey team scored three goals in each of the first two period to cruise to a 6-2 road victory over Vermont on Friday evening at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

The Terriers improve to 6-3-0 overall and 5-2-0 in Hockey East play while the Catamounts drop to 1-4-2, both overall and in the league.

BU got goals from six players and freshman Sean Maguire made 29 saves to earn his first collegiate win.

The Terriers successfully killed off an early 5-on-3 UVM advantage that lasted for 1:45 to seize the momentum and then never relinquished it, reeling off the game's first four goals, including tallies on each of their first two power-play chances.

Senior Wade Megan and sophomore Alexx Privitera each recorded a goal and an assist. Megan's tally was the eventual game-winner and Privitera recorded a game-high four blocked shots. Junior Garrett Noonanand sophomore Cason Hohmann (game-best +3 rating) collected two assists apiece.

Freshman Ahti Oksanen opened the scoring on a power play 11:46 into the game as he rifled a shot to the upper left corner of the net right as he took a hit in the left circle. Freshman Danny O'Regan and junior Matt Nieto earned assists on the play.

BU took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to goals 40 seconds apart late in the first. From the top of the crease, junior Sahir Gill finished off a pass by freshman Matt Grzelcyk at 17:51 for his first goal of the year. Moments later, BU converted in tight once again, this time from the stick of Megan off a feed by Hohmann.

A UVM penalty at 3:46 of the second allowed BU to take a 4-0 lead. Megan brought the puck into the zone before dropping off a pass for Hohmann, who then found Noonan as he joined the play. Noonan then set up Privitera at the top of the right circle, where he buried a shot at 4;24 to chase UVM goaltender Brody Hoffman.

The Catamounts got on the board midway through the contest when Chris McCarthy found the back of the net to cut the BU lead to 4-1.

The Terriers, however, completed another three-goal period with strikes from freshman Wesley Myron and senior Sean Escobedo at 17:03 and 19:51, respectively, to create a 6-1 cushion.

Myron's goal, which was his first collegiate tally, came on a rush from the left side after receiving a pass from junior Patrick MacGregor. The highlight of the night came from Escobedo, as he eluded a UVM defender with a spin move at the top of the slot before beating Billy Faust for his third career goal at Gutterson.

BU gave the home team three power-play chances in the third and they cashed in on the middle one, as Pete Massar capped the scoring when he got ahead of the defense and converted from above the right post with 11:19 left in regulation.

Vermont got a combined 19 saves from Hoffman (10) and Faust (9) and went 1-of-5 on the power play. The Terriers converted on two of their six chances with the man advantage.

BU will return to action on Sunday (Nov. 18) when they play host to No. 5/6 New Hampshire. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

Myron had about as bland a game for Boston University as one can have in a 4-1 win over Joe Cannata's old team Merrimack. He went scoreless with no shots and an even rating. I think he's on the 4th line anyway so it's unlikely he's getting many opportunities to do much.

Anyone who follows College hockey that can comment further? This guy seems like such a nobody. Even in the late rounds of the draft, you'd think we'd be able to get someone who can advance past the 4th line in college.

Sorry to be the correction police, but...

Myron has been on the 3rd line every game this year and has not missed a game this season. Last game he was chosen to replace Wade Megan who was on the 1st line, due to a late injury to Megan. Myron didn't really impress there in his one game stint and is now back on the 3rd line C.

His production is disappointing and needs improvement, however, you won't find a bigger fan for Myron than Jack Parker, BU's coach. He loves Myron because of the energy and gritty game he plays. But in the offensive zone, there's a lot of work to be done. He needs to bear down on his chances because his line generates a lot of chances, but Myron has gained a reputation for missing a lot of these chances, either shots or passes.

Although I am not that high on him, give him some time. Its his freshman season and he should be a big part of BU for the years to come.

No need to be sorry. It's good when someone like you can come into the thread and provide some correct info.

Do you know what kind of a player Myron projects to be? Judging by your description above, it sounds like he would be a 4th line energy guy in the NHL, which is fine. I was just thinking to myself that not every prospect has to develop into an offensive player. That's what the high picks or the late round steals are for. Getting 3rd/4th line role players from the draft is just as important. Ask the Detroit Red Wings how important draft picks like Darren Helm and Justin Abdelkader are to their team.

Bottom 6 kind of guy; the strengths to his game is the energy he plays with, good skater, creates a lot of chances because he is so hard on the puck and has a motor to take pucks away. That could be a good asset to develop into a 3rd line kind of guy. He's a good FO guy too. If his hands ever round out and if he begins to capitalize on his chances, he should be a guy to watch.
