don't trade edler

If its between Edler at 6 and Weber at 8 I'd pay the extra 2 mil per in a heartbeat.

People need to get a clue and realize we are talking about one of the top two or three defenseman in the league. Edler is nowhere close so those of you refusing to move him if it meant getting Weber are clinically insane.

A question to the folks who state that Edler isn't going anywhere.

How do you know? What irrefutable evidence do you have that states that Alex Edler is staying?

What fact do you have that proves the Canucks aren't interested in signing Shea Weber, if he becomes available?

I can state that I have heard things, but at this point it is nothing more than speculation.

Alex Edler does not have a NTC. He can be traded for the right return. His value exceeds his salary.

Hypothetically, if the Canucks had an interested party in Weber, I would trade Edler in a heartbeat. Why?

They both had similar points this year, and both put up less than average numbers in the post season, partially due to going up against excellent goaltenders

However, Edler looked confused during the playoffs and was nearly invisible as a physical presence.

Weber looked in control and was a force on the ice. Ask Zetterberg.

IMHO a defensman should make forwards pay whenever possible. That point seemed lost on Edler. He showed it during the reg season, but lost his mojo in the playoffs.

Do we give him another shot? Sure. He's good enough, but is wildly inconsistent.

Do we trade him to Nashville, combined with a player or two and draft picks, for Shea Weber (if the opportunity presents itself)? MG would have to be considered clinically insane not to.

Canucks currently have 2 right handed defensemen and 5 left handed defensemen. People are saying if we get weber edler should be gone.I don't think that is smart because edler is a great defensmen. He isn't as good as weber but he is still very good and gets paid less money. He is only 26 yeats old and he had a career year with 49 points. Weber had the same amount of points. Edler gets paid significantly less money and puts up around the same amount of points. Edler should stay a canuck.

Don't trade Daniel Sedin.

Canucks right now have more left handed forwards than right handed forwards. People are saying that if we get doan sedin should be gone. I don't think that is smart because sedin is a great forward. He is better than doan and he is still very good and gets paid more money. He is only 31 yeats old and he had a career year with 104 points. Sedin had more amount of points. Sedin gets paid significantly more money and puts up around more amount of points. Sedin should stay a canuck. If we get someone like Shane Doan, its a mistake to trade Daniel Sedin.

Actually, it might be the "a-hole" thing to say/do but if the opportunity presents itself for Weber, the Canucks could make an offer that Nashville cannot refuse: Garrison + Ballard + Raymond for Weber's rights.

In the event that Suter doesn't sign with Nashville and Weber doesn't want more than a 1 year contract (indicating he wants out), then nashville is faced with the stark possibility of losing two world class defencemen for nothing.

In that event, we make the following offer:

M.Raymond+ K.Ballard + J. Garrison for S.Weber + 2ndR

This would be a great trade for Nashville- putting two 'good but not great' defencemen for the same salary as one 'great' defenceman, Weber (8.8 for two players vs 7.5 for 1), plus gives them some secondary scoring (they need it).

IMO, Edler is a heck of a lot more proven than Garrison- sure, people who are/were billing Edler to be a 'Chara/Weber/Keith' are going to be disappointed, but IMO, he is atleast as good as Del Zotto and at his best ( probably over the next 2-3 years), will approach top 5-10 status in the league.

Yes, he becomes an UFA next year, but IMO, a long term 5- 5.5 million contract locks him up good and gives us, by far, the greatest defence in the league:

Weber (right shot) - Edler (left shot)

Bieksa ( right shot) - Hamhuis ( left shot)

Tanev ( right shot)- ??

IMO, Tanev should be partnered with someone like Rome, or, in an ideal world, by Corey Saarich.

But with Edler-Weber and Bieksa-Hamhuis expected to eat up close to 50 minutes per game, a sixth pairing with the steady Tanev, playing for around 10 minutes, is going to be an easy fix in the long term

Ultimately, this may be extremely wishful thinking, because we honestly cannot afford Weber for more than 7-7.5 million per year at best and it'd be an extremely 'a-hole' thing to do, to sign Garrison for a hometown discount and then trade him along with Ballard for Weber's rights.

If we could trade Edler plus extras for Weber then we do it in a heartbeat.

For those who think nashville won't trade weber you only have to look at ryan suter.

suter is now unrestricted and about to sign elsewhere. nashv will get nothing back for him.

Weber will be unrestricted after next season I believe.

If he doesn't re-sign with them they will trade him. They would have to be idiots to let him go for nothing.
