[Proposal] Luongo to Washington

Recommended Posts

Washington is a team in need for a goalie ( Holtby needs to mature and Neuvirth is not very good at all) and they would be a team that might be interested in Luongo to provide a more stable net presence.

The deal:

Luongo for Karl Alzner, Troy Brouwer and 1st Round draft pick for Lungo.

Brouwer is a proven 3rd line stud, would facilitate the creation of a 'great' third line of Burrows-Lapierre and Brouwer.

Alzner is a former 1st round draft pick, young and developing nicely and given that this deal would represent an upgrade in goal (a major weak point of Washington), is a win-win both ways.

What do you folks think ?

A bona-fide third line scoring & checking threat, a potentially very good defenceman and a 1st round draft pick, that'd realistically be in the 15-20 range of picking.

Washington doesn't give up much, we get parts we can use very effectively for Luongo, while rebuilding the franchise base ( as well as getting an immediate improvement to our depth in D & depth in secondary scoring/primary checking) and swap a 5.33 per year salary for a combined total of 3.6 million per year.

1 playoff season does not a goalie make, especially when it is a very new goalie. Remember Niemi ? Jose Theodore ?

Holtby may pan out or he won't, but there is no doubt that their goal is a weak point, with very little experience or proven track record.

As far as Neuvirth goes, he is an ordinary goalie. He won't be a great goalie, he won't even be a Cam Ward at his best, IMO.

He will be a good backup, somewhere in the Raycroft zone, but nothing more.

Maybe Washington does like the looks of Holtby/Neuvirth duo, which is why there is no rumours about Washington for Luongo.

But hey, i just wondered if that would look like a good deal to both parties.
