I suppose this is noteworthy, considering how hectic GM Chuck Fletcher must have been these past few days. Dowell signed late last night. Followers of the Chicago Blackhawks may recall him as a fourth-line depth player.

As Minnesota Wild fans hang on every tweet and news report while free agency closes out its third day, the Wild made another depth move.

On Tuesday, the club agreed to terms with forward Jake Dowell, a veteran of 154 NHL games and a winner of the Stanley Cup with Chicago Blackhawks in 2010. The Eau Claire, Wisconsin native spent last season with the Dallas Stars and notched two goals and five assists in 52 games.

It's the third signing of free agency by the Wild, which inked forwards Zenon Konopka and Torrey Mitchell to deals on Sunday.

Dowell's most productive season came the previous year in Chicago when he posted six goals and 15 assists in 79 games.

Dowell plays a gritty, two-way game and he's won at every level. As a member of the United States entrant in the 2004 World Junior Championships. In college, he helped the Wisconsin Badgers win the National Championship in 2006. Current Wild defenseman Tom Gilbert and former Wild forward Robbie Earl were also members of that Badger squad.

The six-foot, 190-pound forward was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fifth round of the 2004 NHL Draft.

Dowell will speak to Wild.com on Wednesday.
