[Signing] Devils sign Krys Barch

Devils agree to terms with rugged Krys Barch:

Krys Barch, 31, a physical 6-foot-1, 222-pound right wing who split last season with the Stars and the Panthers, has agreed to a two-year deal with the Devils today, his California-based agent, Scott Norton, has confirmed.

Do not have his salary cap hit yet. Last season, Barch carried a cap hit of $837,500.

Norton said he talked to “a lot of teams” about Barch, who had two goals, three assists and 114 penalty minutes in 51 games last season, and Barch chose the Devils after getting “down to about five or six teams.”

Barch will provide bottom six depth among the forwards and Norton said Devils president Lou Lamoriello indicated to him that Barch could fit in on the fourth line as one or more of the Devils’ valuable fourth-liners during the postseason run - Stephen Gionta, Steve Bernier and Ryan Carter - could vie for a spot on the third line. Gionta, Bernier and Carter all recently re-signed with the Devils.

“Krys can fit into the same group and some of those guys can play on the third line,” Norton said.

“So much of the hockey world was standing still for (Zach) Parise and (Ryan) Suter and Krys looked at his role and the way the game is going,” Norton said. “There have been definite signs the last couple of years that physical teams are winning the Stanley Cup and certainly teams in that (Atlantic) Division can utilize guys who can both play and be physical. The Devils play the Rangers, they play the Flyers, they play the Penguins. It’s a way for Krys to showcase himself with a team that’s built on character. That, and the fact that Eastern time zone travel, that certainly looked attractive, certainly more than the left coast.”

Barch has 12 goals, 19 assists and 669 penalty minutes in 304 regular-season games over six NHL seasons, the first five and a half spent with the Stars.

“I’ve probably done more contracts with Lou than any other team and I can honestly say they don’t go by who’s a first-round pick,” Norton said. “Krys is old-school, blue-collar, lunch-pail as it is and that’s all he can ask for. He just wants to go in and have a chance with a team that can appreciate what he can bring to the table.”

Racist? That was so blown out of proportion, PK Subban fell and Barch asked if he slipped on a banana peel.

He is a funny guy, he was doing an interview on Fan590 in toronto and the radio guy (forget who) aked why the Panthers did so well against the Leafs, and Barch said "obviously, its because we have so many Ontario boys on the team." This was shortly after Cherry's rant, made me LOL.
