Sympathy Signing: Brendan Morrison?

I would sign him to the league min 2 way contract. If he sucks and doesn't make the team, then no big loss on the cap.

I have to say though back when he had that PTO for us during training camp, he stood out as one of the better players and was robbed.

Not so sure if he still has anything left

I have given this some thought....and I think if he would agree to a 2 way contract...and near the league minimum, then he would be a great addition. I believe he is still a capable centerman, who could play on either the 2nd or 3rd line. (not saying he is the best option there, but for the price and if we have injuries, I think he would make a very cheap and capable replacement.) After a year or 2 of being a call up, If he still has gas in the tank i'd keep him with the wolves to take over the role that Keane and Baumer used to have. I met Mr. Morrison once. I catered a wedding for one of his wives relatives. He is a nice guy, and I wish him well.

Frankly, there is no reason Brendan Morrison should accept an offer from Vancouver after that last ordeal two years ago. Mike Gillis had promised him a full-time position if he passed his tryout; instead, he lowballed him, as he usually does with free agents, and offered him a two-way contract. The previous tryout was apparently only for "sentimental reasons," as Morrison later phrased.

Another ringing endorsement for Gillis player management.

Brendan had 43 points in 66 games for Calgary that year.

Brendan seemed to really want a chance to finish his career in Vancouver.

Chalk up another Gillis fail.

We need to start focussing.

We ALL know what this team needs and I hope it's on the way, because there is no sign of it yet...........

In answer to the OP, no I don't think we should think like that, we would only dislike the guy more if he foundered because most fans would think he didn't really earn it.

We need 3 or 4 pieces of pushback glue to get this team back to a cohesive unit again.

He is currently a free agent that could be had for cheap who would obviously relish playing out his career in his home province. He'd be a good 4th line depth player, power play specialist if Garrison ends up a dud. Not that I think he will but anything can happen!

Just think this would be a good signing instead of guys like PATRICK MULLEN, ANDREW EBBET AND STEVE PINOZOTTO <----- career AHL'ers. BMO is tried tested and true and could do what he did in Calgary and surprise us once again. I say he's good for at the very least 15g-25a-50pts

If we are rebuilding our team, then yes. But we are cup contender, we have to get any possible help we can get to ensure we have a better chance for the cup, so No to Morrison. If he wants to retire, he is always welcome to join Canucks management team.
