Grading the offseason so far

All that crap is just semantics.

Gillis, of course, has been on record numerous times of saying "we will not ask players to waive their NTCs". OK. Instead, you'll just make it crystal clear who you want as your starting goalie, and who's going to be riding the pine, instead.

This is not Luongo's fault, not at all. Schneider should've been moved not long after Luongo signed the monster extension in '09. That way, we'd be left with a proven, reliable goalie for the next decade, and we'd have gotten something of real value back for Schneider. Make no mistake - this is GILLIS' fault.

Draft: C+

Gaunce seems like a steal.

Free Agency: C-

Lost Salo, gained Garrison. Haven't signed any capable forwards and re-signed Raymond :sadno: . Lost in the Shultz sweep-stakes and looks as though we never took a shot at either Parise or Suter. Mueller signed to the Panthers for a reasonable contract, while we could have used him with Kesler's absence. If we sign Doan I'll raise to grade to a B-. We also haven't gotten younger or more physical. And oh yah, we still have that Luongo character. I easily would have traded him for Schenn and than trade him for JVR.

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but for those of you who think we may be getting Doan, you might be wrong.

"The city of Glendale has disqualified a ballot measure aimed at blocking a proposed sales tax increase. Glendale disqualified the measure Wednesday, arguing ballot and petition language was misleading to voters. In addition, the city said there were other technical problems with the ballot measure and its campaign committee. Keeping the sales tax measure off the November ballot could be a boost to the city’s 20-year deal with prospective Phoenix Coyotes buyer Greg Jamison"

TL/DR version: Phoenix seems like its most likely staying.... :sadno:

B

Unlike some people here, I realize one single team is not going to acquire every top UFA available.

Nor are they going to steal the no. 1 pick, with the 26th overall pick.

The off-season is far from over.

Some people need to get their heads checked.

If we can manage to sign Doan and get a good return for Luongo, this suddenly turns into an epic offseason.

We will have signed two of the best value players available, while adding grit and hopefully getting younger and bigger.

It's way too early to grade the offseason, considering there's still like 2 and a half months left of it.
