MJDDawg
If Weber really wanted to leave Nashville, he would not have signed the offer sheet since he was going to be a UFA after this season. Given the uncertainty of what a new CBA will look like, an offer sheet was probably the only way he was going to cash in for the dollars Suter and Parise got. From Shea's standpoint it's a win-win...he get the big money and term AND gets to stay in Nashville or play in Philly.

Stizz19
Weber is the best Dman in the league with Suter playing Robin to Weber (batman). Maybe Weber is not as good as everyone thinks without a player like Suter. We shall see but the consensus is that Weber is the best Dman in the league. The Sedin's 6th Sense
the nhl really needs to step in. these contracts are getting soooooooo rediculous, 14 years over 100 mill are you freaking kidding me
vancanfan
The NHL is asking for no bonuses and a term limit of 5 years for contracts. So this type of contract will no longer exist in the future. Even if the league doesn't get every thing they want this type of contract will be a thing of the past. That's why Weber made the right decision to cash in now. mpt
You don't think Minnesota, Edmonton & Colorado bypass Vancouver in three years once the Sedins start losing a step (something they can ill afford to happen given their current shortcoming in that department)? That's just within the division...
Jester@wraiths.ca
So - correct me if I'm wrong. Can Nashville match and trade? Match the deal then trade to, say, Detroit? Or are they locked in for the year? And an offer sheet can't have a no-trade clause, can it?
Champions of Nothing
If the compensation is two - 1st rounders, a 2nd and 3rd. Gillis traded approx. that in the Keith Ballard trade! (1st rounder, Grabner [who was a 1st rounder], Bernier [who was a 1st rounder] ). That's 3 first round picks right there for Keith Ballard. Gillis must have been in the midst of putting together an offer sheet for Weber, right? Surely, Weber is worth more than Keith Ballard, right? Rey
Coyle looks like a pretty sure bet, but so did Mueller.........Granlund still has a lot to prove against men, imo..........Dumba was the wild card in the draft........Minny is banking on him being able to bring that physical aspect to the NHL, but at 5'11, I'm not sold

VancouverStyle
All Nashville does is churn out NHL defensemen. Even with losing Suter and Weber, they'll be no worse than the middle of the pack in regards to defense.

gizmo2337
Ya, basically confirming he had no urgency at all. I don't blame him. If we signed Weber to a contract like that, you could say goodbye to Burrows, Edler, Higgins, Lappy, etc.

WHL rocks
Somehow I think this type of deal we are seeing tonight is going to make a lot of fans side with the owners in a new CBA, because this is just ridiculous, Allowed, but still it needs to be addressed soon.
