Extremely valid source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NHL_players_who_have_signed_offer_sheets

Mattias Ohlund, Ryan Kesler, Steve Bernier, and we offered one to David Backes in 2008. Interesting stuff. Seems to be a pattern that when a team has a player offer sheeted, they take revenge and offer one themselves. No better example then when we gave an offer sheet to David Backes, then 7 days later St. Louis gives an offer sheet to Steve Bernier. (In hindsight we could have said "In your face")

Also found out that part of Anaheim's compensation for Edmonton taking Dustin Penner was our old buddy Justin Schultz.

What I get out of the offer sheets for RFAs over the past 15 years are the following:

(1) Incidence is very low (10 in the past 15 years)

(2) Offer sheets are matched (7 out of 10 have been matched; one to be determined)

(3) No indication that there is retaliation, other than STL making a play for Bernier as RFA

Connection between Schultz and Penner signing by the Oilers have relation to each other.

What offer sheets have done for us is provide comic relief, especially the tirade Burke went on after Lowe poached Penner from the Ducks...look how good that turned out for the Oilers.

Don't think philly would have had the patience for Kesler to bloom into the offensive threat he is today. I'm sure Kes would have never realized his offensive capabilities had he been on the flyers... 3rd line at best in their system.

Not only was it a blessing for the Canucks organization to hold on to Kesler, but a blessing to Kesler himself. He should be mutually thankful to the organization and coaching system (which i'm sure he is) for allowing him to flourish and become an nhl all star.

Actually if you think about it, the Canucks were involved in all 9 offer sheets.

Nicklas Hjalmarsson played for the BlackHawks, our rival and the team that eliminated the Canucks from the playoffs that year.

Dustin Penner came from the Ducks who knocked us out in the second round of the playoffs the year he signed the offer sheet.

Thomas Vanek is from the Buffalo Sabres which was a team that along with us came into the league during 1970.

Sergei Federov's brother was drafted by us... Oh, and Kevin Bieksa knocked him out outside of a bar.

Shea Weber is from BC, where Vancouver is.... And he was supposed to sign with us. Joking
