Jason Garrison reveals his number

Recommended Posts

The reason a lot of defensemen used to pick low numbers is that sleeping arrangements weren't that great back then. The lower numbers got to sleep in bigger beds than the higher numbers, and with defensemen being bigger in stature, picked lower numbers to get these big beds.

I'm sure Garrison doesn't care what number he wears... He got a huge pay day to play where he wanted to play... I still think we could have signed him for a year less and at less money (not much less, but still a bit less)

First of all - #19 is a popular number used by many and so is #9. #22 and #33 are nothing special in themselves. But as the posts above in this thread have indicated, high numbers are designated for high skilled players who have a special talent - ie, Lemieux's 66, Jagr's 68, Crosby's 87, Gretzky's 99, etc (#91 doesn't really count because it's so popular).

#71 is Evgeni Malkin - the Russian power forward center and the league's best player this past season. Jensen plays a similar game and he would want to make a name for himself, not be the 2nd, 3rd or 4th best #71 in the game right now. He should get his own high number or take a regular low number - ie, #27 = 17 (original number) + 10

Foligno joined the league in Malkin's sophomore year before he made a big name for himself.
