[Proposal] Van - Fla

Recommended Posts

I was really bored so I came up with a simple proposal that would benefit both teams.

To Florida:

Luongo

2013 First Round Selection

Conditional 2014 first(If the Canucks make it to the finals)

Chris Tanev

Jordan Schroeder

Yann Sauve

Mason Raymond

To Vancouver:

Stephen Weiss

Erik Gudbranson.

Why Florida does this,

With the loss of Garrison, I think Sauve and Tanev would give the Panthers defense some stability and depth on the back-end.

With Huberdeau and Bjugstad coming up on center I think it makes Weiss expendable, Schroeder is a nice addition in-case that Bjugstad or Huberdeau aren't ready this year.

Luongo could easily get them into the playoffs in a weak division.

The first round draft pick will solidify what is arguably the best prospect pool in the league.

Why Vancouver does this,

Weiss could fill the second line center void while Kesler is gone, and once Kesler gets back I think Kesler and Booth would look great on Weiss's left and right wing. Booth and Weiss had chemistry

back in Florida and Kesler would benefit from Weiss's passing abilities, most likely getting him back to his 40 goal ways.

Gudbranson would stabilize our third pairing and eventually develop into a number one defenseman.

Although it seems like Vancouver underpays, do they?

They give up,

A top 5 goalie in the world

Top 6 winger

Two future top 4 defensemen

a Potential second line center

And two first round picks.

Luongo + First = Weiss

Sauve,Tanev,Schroeder,Raymond,First Slightly over Gudbranson

Sign:

Doan: 2 years @ 5M

Lines:

Sedin-Sedin-Doan

Booth-Weiss-Kesler

Burrows-Higgins-Kassian (Higgins has played C Before)

Malhotra-Lappierre-Hansen

Hamhuis-Bieksa

Edler-Garrison

Ballard-Gudbranson

Schneider

I love Weiss' skill but his size and aggression are lacking. I think we are in the market for a big, bruising center for our bottom six. Florida brass have also stated they won't deal any of their top prospects. Too bad, Gudbranson would look good in Canuck colors.

Huberdeau, Gudbranson and Markstrom are all untouchable.

I don't see Raymond being moved, at all. It seems like management is set on giving him every possible chance to redeem himself, and why wouldn't we? Suddenly Gillis has lost all of his pragmatism?

I think if FLA does part with any prospects, they will be B Tier at best, the 3 aforementioned prospects by all accounts appear to be anchors of the future core of that team, it would be like us trading Hodgson 1 year after being drafted; we all remember the amount of fanfare there was in these parts before Hodgson even played a single AHL game.

I could see Sauve being parted with, possibly Tanev. If they are giving up Weiss (if he will waive the NTC), it's likely they want a NHL ready player who could be poised to break out, the only name that comes to mind that could be expendable would be Jannik Hansen.

Here's what I would propose:

To FLA

G, Luongo

F, Hansen

D, Sauve

Pick, 1st round 2014

To Vancouver

C, Weiss

G, Theodore

F, Bjugstad

F, Howden

Assuming Doan signs in Vancouver, this is how I'd see the roster (with and without Kesler):
